August 2018 Karen Burniston Designer Challenge

Hi Crafty Friends,

Welcome to our August Karen Burniston Designer Challenge.

Check out Karen Burniston's blog on Wednesday (US Time) when you will be able to see what all the designers created for the challenge this month, plus Karen will have an amazing video tutorial to share with us all.

Our challenge theme this month is .... Charmed (to use one or more of the Charm die sets on our card/project)

I decided to go with a coffee theme for the challenge today and used the Coffee Charms die set for the charm portion of the challenge.

On the front of the card I created two coffee mugs using the Coffee Cup Pop-up die set. In the centre of the mugs I added the cup and cream from the Coffee Charms die set.

The coffee paper in the background was die cut using the largest die from the Crosshatch Rectangles die set.

The sentiment is from Honey Bee Stamps and was embossed in white using the fishtail flag from the Upsy Daisy Pop-up die set.

For the inside of the card I have created a pop-up card using the Upsy Daisy Pop-up die set. In the centre square of the pop-up I added a sentiment from Honey Bee Stamps and added two coffee beans from the Coffee Cup Pop-up die set.

On the left and right squares I added coffee mugs from the Coffee Charms die set. The flourish in the small mug represents steam and is from the Cupcake Pop-up die set.

I used the Alphabet die set to create the Coffee sentiment on the top panel of the card.

I have again used the largest die from the Crosshatch Rectangles for the coffee bean designer paper.

To finish the card I used the Crosshatch Ovals die set.

Don't forget to visit Karen Burniston's blog on Wednesday when you will be able to see what all the designers created for the challenge this month.

Perfect Blend

Hi Crafty Friends,

It’s challenge time with the “Crazies” over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. Maryann Einam our challenge hostess for the month continues to issue the challenges.

Perfect Blend - Create a card  with coffee for inspiration in the form of colours, stamps or dies.

This was the perfect opportunity to pull out my Karen Burniston Coffee Cup Pop-up Card die set and play with it again. This time around I paired it with some stamps, dies and stencils from Honey Bee Stamps.

I used the Honey Bee Stamps Coffee Lovers Background Stencils to create the coffee bean background and also the coffee stains on the kraft and brown cardstock. The sentiments are also from the Honey Bee Stamps Perfect Blend Stamp & die sets.

I used the curvy border from the Twist Panel Pop-up die set to create the curvy edge at both edges of the card. The sentiments are stamped onto labels from the Katherine Label Pop-up Card die set.

Here is an overhead shot of my card so you can see the whole inside of the card at one time.

For the front of the card I kept to a similar layout as the inside of the card adding a coffee cup and sentiment again from Honey Bee Stamps.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the “Crazies” cards over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and also their individual blogs for more details.

Love You More Than Coffee

Hi Crafty Friends,

It’s challenge time with the “Crazies” over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. Karen Aicken our challenge hostess for the month continues to issue the challenges.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Make your project reflect love or appreciation. Make a Valentine, Anniversary, Thinking of You or card showing support.

My daughter came home recently with a Starbucks "Valentine's" Gift Card, she knew I was after some pretty coffee gift cards to use with my new Karen Burniston Coffee Cup Pop Up Card die. Seeing that Valentine's Day is only a few weeks away I figured I better make a card so I could use it :). As the gift card was flowery and bright, I wanted to replicate that in my card.

I created the coffee mug using colors found in the designer paper used on the base. The striped paper also included colors in the designer paper so I added that to the card as well for some extra interest. I added a sentiment which is from Riley and Company.

Seeing it was a Valentine themed card I added a few hearts to the coffee mug; napkin and sentiment. The hearts are from the heart border included in the Cake Trims die set.

Here is an overhead photo of my card, so you can see the whole card at once.

For the front of the card I added another coffee mug and used a few of the sentiments included in the Honey Bee Stamps Perfect Blend stamp set.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the “Crazies” cards over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and also their individual blogs for more details.

It's Good Coffee

Hi Crafty Friends,

If you haven't heard the new already, Karen Burniston has 18 new dies being released on the 1st February. All of the new dies are up on the website ready for pre orders, you can find them here

Today I am excited to share a few of the new dies from Karen Burniston's 2018 Pop-up Collection.

This card uses the new Coffee Cup Pop-up die set which comes with a gift card holder at the back of the coffee cup. This is such a fun die set.

It's always hard to decide which dies to use first when you get a bunch of dies at the same time, but as I had received a coffee themed paper pad for Christmas I decided to use this die set first.

As always when Karen designs a die set she thinks of everything we might need, napkin, stirrer, coffee beans etc.

I used the coffee cup charm from the new Coffee Charms die set to decorate the front of my large pop-up coffee cup.

Along each edge I added a stripe of white cardstock, used one of the trims from the Cake Trims die set to edge both sides of the cardstock and then added a row of coffee beans.

For the sentiment I used the Word Set 5 - Royalty die set to cut the It's Good part. This set comes with some sentiments and a fishtail banner. I placed my cutting plate up to the "d" in the word good, so that it wouldn't cut the whole sentiment. Then I carefully removed the sentiment without moving the fishtail banner and continued die cutting.

I stamped the "coffee" word onto the banner and added the die cut coffee bean.

Here is an overhead view of my card so you can see the whole card at once.

Here you can see how the gift card keeps in place, depending on how wide your card is you can have more or less of the gift card sticking out the right hand side.

And finally the front of the card. I used the new Happy Birthday sentiment die using the large label from the Katherine Label Pop-up to layer the sentiment. I also added a few coffee beans and two more small coffee cups from the Coffee Charms die set.
