Hi everyone,

It’s challenge time with the “Crazies” over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. This week Kristine Reynolds completes her month as the June Challenge Hostess.

For our challenge this week Kristine has challenged us to use Hexagons!-I (Kristine) am loving all the great Hexagon cards I am seeing out there! I want to see some more! Let’s see what you can do with this fun geometric shape!

I have a ton of hexagons dies so I went with those for the challenge this week.
I used La La Land Crafts Sweet Friend Marci for my card this week, she is layered using MFT Die-namics Hexagon Stax which I have also used for my sentiment.

Farewell Google Reader

Hi everyone,

In just a few days Google Reader will be gone for good! Sad I know as I have been using this program for a number of years now to keep track of all the blogs I like to follow. June 30th will be the last day that Google Reader will be functioning so you need to think about transferring your reading list to another Reader of some sort. I know I have over a 1000 readers viewing my blog posts using Google Reader and I would hate to lose any of you.

When I first heard about Google Reader going back sometime in March I like many others was a little upset ... I am not fond of change, I liked how Google Reader worked and could be viewed. Anyway I tried a few other readers out there ... which included:

Bloglovin - I subscribed to this one first and it just wasn't for me ... I couldn't work out how to view it the way I wanted to view it so I unsubscribed from it ... but everyone is different, some people love it.

Feedly - Next I tried Feedly another one someone recommended ... it was lot more similar to Google Reader but again it wasn't for me as I lost all my folders which make it easier for me to find a particular blog.

The Old Reader - A friend told me about a new reader which was being created especially because Google Reader was going that would work just like Google Reader. I had to wait a little while before I tried it .... but when it was available I subscribed to it. I have been much happier with this reader ... and the good news is that I can now have it synced on my ipad/iphone using Feeddler Pro which is the app I prefer to use to check my blog posts when I am using my ipad/iphone. It's a little bit more complicated to set up your RSS feeds to start off, but it is pretty easy to do and I love how similar it is to Google Reader.

First up you will have to sign in or register to Old reader ... once you have done this you will need to import your feeds from your Google Reader to The Old Reader.

To import your subscriptions go to your Google Reader and click on the gear icon (settings) which is at the top right hand side ... it just down below your name

Click on reader settings from this menu

Now click on the Import/Export tab and then click on download your data through Takeout
Now click on create archive
This will create an archive (is dated the date you did it and is called reader) click on download and download this to your computer somewhere where you will find it. (you may be asked to sign into Google before it allows you to save the file)
Go to where you saved the file and upzip the file

Now go back to The Old Reader click on import at the top right hand side

Use the browse button to find the Subscriptions.xml file you downloaded (it should look like the pic below)

Now click on import

Depending on how many feeds you have in your Google Reader how long it takes for it to import. When I did mine I didn’t think it was working but it was in the background so don’t close the page ... just let it do it’s stuff. It could take about 10 mins or so. Less if you don’t have many feeds.

This reader allows me to still have all my folders which some of the other options wouldn’t let me. It is only fairly new compared to the others as it was created due to Google Readers announcement a few months ago ... so I am sure over time there will be other improvements we will like to.

Now if you use Feeddler Pro on your iPad/iPhone to check your blog posts (I love this app ... there is a free version too however the paid one has more options you can use). I found to change over from syncing with Google Reader to The Old Reader ... that I had to go to The Old Reader on my computer and sign in ... because I used the option to sign in originally using Google Reader ... my password wasn't working, so I clicked on the option to email me a link to reset my password. Then I was able to reset my password and then use this to sign in on Feeddler Pro on my iPad/iPhone.

I am very happy now and ready to continue to follow all my favorite blogs when the 1st July comes around :)

Special To Me!

CCEE1326-Flower-wm

Hi everyone,

It’s challenge time with my friends over on the CCEE Stampers challenge blog. This week our challenge hostess for the month Brenda O’Rear finishes off her month as hostess with one last fun challenge.

Brenda has challenged us to Use a dryer sheet flower on your card. It's a fun and easy technique. You can find a tutorial on how to create these on Splitcoast Stampers

I don’t use dryer sheets and I am not even sure that if there are dryer sheets available down here in Australia that they are the same as the ones used in the USA … so I decided to create my flower using tissue paper I received in a parcel recently. Other than not being a dryer sheet I have used the same technique as the tutorial above to create my flower.

My card uses MFT Stamps WBD You’re So Special to Me.

CCEE1326 Flower2 wm

Here is the inside of my card. I used the sentiment which is also included in the stamp set.

Don’t forget to check out the CCEE Stampers blog (goes live 12 AM EST) to see the rest of the creations the CCEE Stampers created this week. You can also see more details of their creations on their individual blogs:

Shattered Glass

Shattered-Glass1-wm

Hi everyone,

My card today is one I created at a recent Stamp Club I attend each month. This card uses the Shattered Glass Technique.  To create the card I used gloss white card and then tore up strips of masking tape and applied them to my card. I then applied various colored inks all over my card. I then stamped the images over my card before I removed the masking tape.

Stamps: Various from SU
Paper: White Gloss; Black; Purple
Other: Black Staz On Ink; Butterfly Embellishment

    Hi There!

    Diffuser-BlueGirl-wm

    Hi there!

Today I have another card which uses the Tim Holtz Embossing Diffusers by Sizzix. This time round I used the diffuser which has the oval going across the card and at the top or bottom (depending on how you look at it)

This time I used just the oval cut out piece and positioned it near the bottom of my card as I wanted it to be where the little girl I used for this card was standing (like grass or footpath or whatever!) Once I had embossed the card I then used inks and sponging blocks to apply the color to my card.

Stamps: Girl from Stylish Coloring Companions Sheet – Stamp In Style; Hi There – Stamp in Style
    Paper: White
Other: Black Ink; Sizzix Embossing Diffusers; Embossing Folder; Button; Hemp Cord; Foam Tape; Copics

    Birthday Girl

    Diffuser-TeenGirl-wm

    Hi everyone,

I recently purchased the Tim Holtz Embossing Diffusers by Sizzix which makes it easy to create the Double Embossing technique. I have created a few cards using this product which I will share with you over the next couple of weeks.

The embossing diffusers come with 3 different shapes and for each shape you get the positive and the negative piece … which allows you to create some fun looks using your existing embossing folders. I don’t know about you but I have a TON of embossing folders so I like the idea of this new tool for more versatility.

For this card I used the circle embossing diffuser and I used both the positive and negative piece. The diffuser goes on top of your embossing folder you want to use in place of one of  your cutting plates which. Where there is a hole or no diffuser your embossing folder does not emboss. Confused … there are many videos out there which should help.

Anyway back to my card. I first used the Sizzix Brick Wall Embossing Folder through my big shot using the circle embossing diffuser (the one which has the circle cut out of the centre. You can see how the brick wall didn’t emboss in the centre of my card which then allowed me to use another embossing folder (dots) and this time I used the circle and lined that up so it was over the empty circle on my card and viola … easy!

Stamps: Stylish Colouring Companions (girl) & Happy Birthday – Stamp in Style
    Paper: White; Pink
Other: Black ink; Sizzix Embossing Diffusers; Sizzix Brick Wall Embossing Folder; Cuttlebug Dots Embossing Folder; MFT Die-namics Fishtail Flags Layers Stax; Foam Tape; Copics

    Happiest of Days!

    C4C191-LOTV-Flip-wm
    Hello everyone,
It’s challenge time with the “Crazies” over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog.  This week our challenge hostess for June, Kristine Reynolds continues to bring us some fun challenges.
This week our challenge is Flip Flop Card Fun! We want to see your Flip Flop Cards. You can use some of those awesome new Sizzix Flip It dies or create your own flip card using this tutorial on SCS.
Well I don’t think it is any secret that I LOVE flip it cards and I think I have all the Sizzix Flip It dies … this makes it so easy to create this style of card and you can have some fun shapes in the centre.
For my Flip It card I used the Sizzix Majestic Flip It die with couple of images from Lili of the Valley … doesn’t look like she is having fun trying on all those shoes!
    C4C191-LOTV-Flip2-wm
Here is my flip it card when it is opened … you can see I used another Lili of the Valley image … I have a feeling the girl got a pair or two of those shoes she was trying on and a few other things too hehe. Of course I could have put a sentiment on this part, but as those to stamps worked well together and they needed to be used I decided to put my sentiment elsewhere on the card.
Don’t forget to check out the rest of the “Crazies” cards over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and also their individual blogs for more details:

Stamps: Emma Shoes & Emma Presents – Lili of the Valley; Birthday Sentiment – MFT Stamps
Paper: White; Paver Red (MFT); Bubblegum (MFT); Remember Me DP – Kaisercraft
Other: Black Ink; Sizzix Framelits Labels Majestic #2; Sizzix Majestic Flip It Die; MFT Die-namics Leaf Filled Flourish; Foam Tape; Copics
