Be A Seeker of Everyday Magic

Hi Crafty Friends,

It's challenge time with my friends over on the CCEE Stampers challenge blog.  Lois Bak our challenge hostess for the month finishes off the month with one last challenge.

Lois is a big Harry Potter fan! Apparently tomorrow (31st July) is his birthday. Create a card to celebrate this event – something magical or just a birthday card.

I'm a big Harry Potter fan too, as is my daughter and grandchildren so last year when I discovered some of the Harry Potter themed dies from Character World, I had to get a few to add to my collection. Since then I have been wanting to play with the dies to create a card but hadn't gotten around to it.

Of course with this challenge today it was the perfect chance to pull them and and do something with them. All month I have been challenging myself with the extra challenge of incorporating Slimline Cards into each of the challenges. Slimline cards have limited space being either 3 1/2 inches x 8 1/2 inches or 4 inches x 9 inches .... so how do I get to include more than one on my card .... a Trifold Slimline Card of course.

Harry needs a little bit extra room than the other two characters, so I opted to use my Pinkfresh Studio Slim Diagonal Stitched Rectangle die for the panels which mean I could create a Slimline which was 4 inches x 9 inches.

To create my Slimline Trifold card, I cut two pieces of cardstock that was 4 inches x 9 inches, folded each in half and then adhere the inside of onto the other. If you had a 12 inch cardstock you could also just trim the cardstock to 9 inches and score along the 12 inch side at 4 inches. But doing it my way does make the card more stable.

I used the Slimline die to die cut 5 panels of maroon cardstock and then used MFT Stamps Brick Stencil to add a brick pattern all over 4 of the panels.
I also used the Slim die to die cut 4 pieces of grey cardstock, as I only needed a small piece for the bottom I just die cut a small piece of cardstock so I didn't waste too much cardstock. This is the concrete.

I computer generated the 9 3/4 so it looks like Harry is standing on the platform at the train station.

I added a sentiment to the top of the card which is from a Kindred Stamps stamp set.

When you open the card, it reveals Hermoine and Ron (they are also at the station). I added a couple of sentiments to a speech bubble for them as well.

Finally by opening the right hand side of the card up, it reveals the three panels on the inside of the card.

For the centre panel I used Pinkfresh Studio's Slim Ornate Banners die set for the birthday sentiment.

On the right hand panel I used Mama Elephant's Big Happy Birthday die for the sentiment I also stamps the sorting hat and added it on top of the sentiment.

Go Wild

Hi Crafty Friends,

Today I am sharing another card I created using some of the new Karen Burniston dies being released next month. Pre-orders are being taken on the web site now (links in supply list below) and orders will start shipping from 3rd August.

Here is a quick video to see my card in action.

Originally  my card today was just going to be a Slimline card using the non pop-up dies which are being released in this release. But of course as you can see, I couldn't leave it at that.

For the front of the card, I started with a slimline panel and added inks in yellows and oranges for the sky. I then cut another panel and used the sand/dirt border included in the Nature Edges die set to create my grass area. I colored each panel using green inks.

I added the tree and sun which are both from the new Landscape Scene die set and the cute little animals from the Safari animals die set.

To finish off the front of the card I added the "Hello" sentiment from the Word Set 6 - Summer die set.

For the inside of the card I added the new Pop 'N Swap Pop-up die set. This just fits into a 4inch wide Slimline Card, you do however need to trim down the large rectangle panel that goes on the top of the pop-up to make sure it can't be seen when the card is closed. I added the pop-up to the centre of the card.

I cut white panel a little smaller than the black panel and colored this with yellow and orange inks. I then added the Go Wild! to it.

As you can see in the photo above, the giraffe at the top of the pop-up is going down behind the large panel while the card is opening. When the card starts to close, the giraffe pops up and the elephant goes behind the large panel.

I used the new Pattern Plate - Fronds die to decorate the left edge of the card. I die cut this twice from green cardstock and adhered it to a panel which had been inked using green inks. This was fairly easy to line up so it looks like it is a continue strip.

"Purse"-onally

Hi Crafty Friends,

Today I am sharing another sneak peeks for KB Riley - Karen Burniston Products July release. Pre-orders are available now and dies will start shipping out in the order received on August 3rd.

For my card today I used the new Purse Pop-up die set. As I love Slimline Cards, I decided to see how it would work on a Slimline, my card base is 3 1/2 inches x 8 1/2 inches when folded and as you can see the purse fits easily inside.

I used the Crosshatch - Ovals to create the pop-up base for my purse to be attached to the card base. The only reason my card isn't fully flat is because I used foam tape for the panels on the front of my card.

To decorate my card I used the make up dies from the Dolled Up Charm die set which is another of the new dies to be released.

I used the rectangle dies from the new Flip Frame Pop-up to add my sentiment at the bottom right hand side of my card. The sentiment is an older stamp I have had in my stash which has long since been retired, but works perfectly with the purse.

For the front of my card I used the scallop rectangle & the "Love You" words  from the Pop & Swap Pop-up die set. The stitched rectangles are from the Flip Frame Pop-up. I added the perfume, nail polish and lipstick pieces which are all from the Dolled Up Charms die set.

Birthday Balloon Shaker

Hi Crafty Friends,

Today I am sharing another Slimline Shaker Card using some of the stamps, dies and papers from Divinity Designs new July Blessings Box.

I created the Slimline Card using Divinity Designs Slimline Card Base; Slimline Rectangles; Slimline Layering Rectangles and Slimline Scalloped Rectangles die set.

The Shaker Balloons were created using the Pierced Balloon Shaker die set which is included in the July Blessings Box. I added yellow, green and white sequins to the balloons which are also included in the box.

The background paper is one of the papers from the new Geometric 6 inches x 9 inches Paper Pad, another item from the Blessings Box.

To finish off the front of the card I used the Let's Celebrate stamp set, which I think you will be seeing me use a lot. I love the bold sentiments and there are a few for various occasions. The sentiments were layered using the Ovals and Doubled Stitched Ovals die set.

For the inside of the card I added the leftover piece of patterned paper that I used for the front of the card. I also added another sentiment from the Let's Celebrate stamp set.

Whohoo Hip Hip Hooray

Hi Crafty Friends,

Today I am sharing a Slimline Card using stamps, dies and papers from Divinity Designs.

Divinity Designs has recently released their July Blessings Box, this is a subscription kit.  This quarter the Blessing Box is all about Bright Colors, Birthdays, Celebrations, Balloons and Shakers!

For my card today I used the Wonky Wishes Stamp/Die Duo set included in the Blessings Box to create a Slimline Shaker Card.

I used Divinity Designs Slimline Pierced Window Frame die to create the shaker portion of the Slimline card. I die cut the frame using the Geometric Paper Pad which is also included in the box, this paper is 6 x 9 inches wide, so is perfect for Slimline cards.

I filled each of the windows with sequins using a few of the colors that coordinated with the patterned paper. These sequins are also part of the kit.

I used the Slimline Rectangles; Slimline Scalloped Rectangles and Slimline Card Base for the layers and base of my Slimline Card.

For the inside of my card, I adhered a strip of the leftover patterned paper along the bottom edge of the card. I added a sentiment and four more of the wonky balloons to my card.

Soy Happy For You

Hi Crafty Friends,

It’s challenge time with the “Crazies” over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. Rebecca Ednie our challenge hostess for the month finishes off the month with one last challenge.

Collages are fun to make. Make a background from various different paper elements or use a paper that already looks like a collage.

All month I have been making Slimline cards for my Crazy 4 Challenges challenge cards, so of course I wanted to continue that for this week's challenge. I thought the Whimsy Stamps Slimline Windows die would be perfect to use to create a collage.

I die cut the frame from black cardstock and then die cut the inner portion of the frames with different patterned papers in red.

To decorate my card I used Lawn Fawn's Let's Roll and Year 8 stamp sets.

I normally like to create some sort of interactive, pop-up or fancy fold card for challenges. So for my card today I decided to create a pop-up card. I used Lawn Fawn's Pop-Up Wish Big and Oliver's ABCs for the pop-up portion of the card.

Along the edges of the inside of the card, I added a frame using the Whimsy Stamps Slimline Windows die. I then added images from Lawn Fawn's Let's Roll stamp set.

Here is another photo of the inside of my card, taken at a different angle so you can see the folds of the pop-up a little better.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the “Crazies” cards over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and also their individual blogs for more details.

Howdy

Hi Crafty Friends,

Today I am sharing Slimline card using some of the new Slimline dies released by Divinity Designs at the beginning of this month.

I used the following Slimline die sets to create this card: Slimline Card Base; Slimline Layering Rectangles; Slimline Rectangles; and Slimline Curvy Slopes. I die cut the background panel using the Slimline Layering Rectangles die set from white cardstock and then used Catherine Pooler inks in Sauna; Tiki Torch and Orange Twist to create my sunset background.

I used the Slimline Curvy Slopes die which I die cut from Kraft cardstock, these are the first two layers of the grounds at the bottom of my card. I added the mounts behind these two layers using one of the mountain dies from the Desert & Park Landscape Silhouettes die set which is one of the sets from the April Blessings Box. This was die cut twice from Kraft cardstock and adhered behind the curvy slopes, overlapping the mountains so the join doesn't show.

I die cut the men, horse, tree, grass, cacti and birds which are all from the Cowboys and Cactus Silhouettes die set from black cardstock and adhered them to my card panel. I die cut a sun from yellow cardstock and adhered it behind the mountain.

To finish off my card, I added a sentiment which is from the Happy Trails stamp set which is layered using the Sentiment Strip with Layers die set.

For the inside of my card I used the Slimline Curvy Slopes again along the base of my card and added the mountain from the Desert and Park Landscape Silhouettes die set. I also added two cowboys and a bird to complete my scene.

I added a sentiment from the Happy Trails stamp set to the top of my card.

Happy Birthday Karen Burniston Blog Hop

Hi Crafty Friends,

Welcome to our Karen Burniston Happy Birthday Blog Hop! Today is Karen Burniston's birthday so the Design Team has decided to surprise her with a special birthday blog hop, just for her!

Happy Birthday Karen!!!!!

Here is a quick video to see my card in action. As Karen Burniston is releasing new dies in a  week or so, I decided to use some of those to create my card today.

To create my card I used the new Flip Frame Pop-up die set to create the pop-up on the top left of the card. I used the Dolled Up Charms to decorate the frame.

I added one of the Crosshatch ovals to the front of the frame for a hand written greeting. I also added the shoes which are also from the Dolled Up Charms die set.

On the right hand panel of my card I added the 'Happy Birthday' sentiment to oval panels using the Crosshatch Ovals die set. The sentiment is die cut using pink and lavender cardstock and then off set.

I also added the cute hippo from the Safari Animals die set, she is holding a present which is from the Gnome and Santa die set.

For the front of the card, I again used the Crosshatch Ovals die set for the oval layers. I added the "Celebrate" sentiment in an arch shape to the top of the oval and also added the 'you" which is from the new Pop 'n Swap die set.

I decorated the bottom of the oval by adding a purse (from the Purse Pop-up die set) and lipstick/nail polish, both from the Dolled Up Charms die set.

Well that is about it from me today, thank you for dropping by. The next stop on the hop is the amazing Kelly Booth

Here is the order for the blog hop:
