Karen Burniston Designer Challenge - April 2021

Welcome to our April Karen Burniston Designer Challenge.

Check out Karen Burniston's blog on Wednesday (US Time) when you will be able to see what all the designers created for the challenge this month, plus Karen will have an amazing video tutorial to share with us all.

Our challenge theme this month is ... "YUMMY!" - make a card that incorporates something yummy. (Sweet Treats charms, Ice Cream Sundae, Cake, Cupcake, etc.)

Since I enjoy creating Slimline cards these days, I love seeing if there is a way to incorporate any of the Karen Burniston's Pop-up dies in this format. For my card today I created a Portrait Slimline card with a 3/4 length front. This card measures 3 1/2 inches x 8 1/2 inches when closed, the front of the card measures 5 1/2 inches.

I used Karen Burniston's Ice Cream Sundae Pop-up die set to add the Ice Cream Sundae to the fold of the card.

I added the stamped sentiment to the ovals which are from the Ovals - Crosshatch die set.

I used the You're Sweet sentiment at the bottom of the card. I die cut this using bright pink and  orange cardstock and then offset the orange at the bottom. This sentiment can be seen when the card is closed.

I added borders to the top and bottom of the card. The borders at the top are from the Border Blends - Argyle and the borders along the bottom section of the card are from the Border Blends - Party die sets.

On the panel on the front of the card I added a patterned paper that contrasts with the one on the inside, so it is easier to see the two different sides.

I used the Border Blends - Argyle to add the borders to the front panel of the card.

I created the ice cream cone to add to the front of the card which is also from the Ice Cream Sundae Pop-up die set. This was layered to the ovals from the Ovals - Crosshatch die set.

Sweet Birthday Wishes

Hi Crafty Friends,

It's challenge time with my friends over on the CCEE Stampers challenge blog. As challenge hostess for the month, I continue to issue the challenges.

According to the Days of the Year website, the 11th November was Sundae Day ... doesn't that sound like a delicious day! Create a card that features ice cream of some sort.

For my card this week, I pulled out Karen Burniston's Ice Cream Sundae Pop-up die set ... it's the perfect set for this challenge.

I used the "Sweet" from the "You're Sweet" die to create the first part of the sentiment and then added the "birthday wishes" which is from MFT Stamps Bitty Birthday Sentiments and then die cut the sentiment using Honey Bee Stamps Banner Builder die set.

In the lower right hand corner of the card I added the sentiment "Life is like an Ice Cream ... Enjoy it before it melts". This is from Darcie's Heart & Home Stay Cool stamp set, I purchased this stamp set earlier in the year specifically for this sentiment to use with the Sundae die.

For the front of the card I used the "Happy Birthday" die also from Karen Burniston. I also added another Sundae below the sentiment.

Don't forget to check out the CCEE Stampers blog (goes live 12 AM EST) to see the rest of the creations the CCEE Stampers created this week. You can also see more details of their creations on their individual blogs:

Soak Up The Sun

Hi Crafty Friends,

It’s challenge time with the “Crazies” over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. Being the beginning of the month, it is time to introduce our challenge hostess for the month, which is ME!!!!

Apparently today is Sandcastle Day, so let's include sandcastles on our card this week … if you don't have sandcastles, sand or anything beach related will do.

About two months ago, Karen Burniston shared how to use the Castle from the Castle Pop-up die set with the Ice Cream Sundae Pop-up die set to create a fun pop-up card. I have been wanting to try this since I saw her video, so this challenge was a great opportunity to try it out. You can see Karen's video here.

I started by creating the Sand Castle portion of the card, then I created the water scene using stamps from MFT Stamps Sunshine & Friendship stamp set. I added drinks to a couple of the animals which are from Drink Up The Sunshine stamp set also from MFT Stamps.

The wave border at the top of the water is from Karen Burniston's Tropical Scenes die set. The ripples in the water is from a stamp I have had in my stash for years.

I created the sky area by sponging on Distress Oxide inks in various shades of blue. I then used white pigment ink and MFT Stamps Cloud Stencil to sponge on clouds.

I die cut the sky panel using the border from Lawn Fawn's Palm Tree Border die set.

The palm trees were die cutting using the border from the Tropical Scenes die set.

For the sun I die cut a circle from the Crosshatch - Circles die set sponging this with Distress Oxide Inks in yellow shades.

To finish off the card I added two sentiments ... the one on the base of the card is from the Sunshine & Friendship stamp set, and the one at the top is from the Drink Up The Sunshine stamp set.

For the front of the card I added, the ocean, sand and sky using the elements I used on the front. I just love these fun animals from the MFT stamp set.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the “Crazies” cards over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and also their individual blogs for more details.

This Calls For Ice Cream

Hi Crafty Friends,

It’s challenge time with the “Crazies” over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. Karen Aicken our challenge hostess for the month, continues to issue the challenge.

Celebrate! January always feels so long, but it’s coming to a close. Make a card to Celebrate! You can make a birthday card, a card to celebrate an upcoming holiday, a card for someone who has a new job, going on a vacation etc. Let’s Celebrate!

What better way to celebrate than with ice cream right!!!! I decided to create a birthday card using the new Karen Burniston Ice Cream Sundae Pop-up die set ... what fun is this!!!! You can whatever flavoured ice cream you want and it's no calories!!!!

I have vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice-cream on mine, with chocolate topping, cream, nuts, wafers and a cherry on top! And of course you need a spoon to eat it.

For the sentiment I used an old stamp set that included an ice cream sentiment. This is layered using scallop rectangle and plain rectangle from the new Rockin' Rectangles Pop-up die set.

I used the Border Blends - Argyle die set to create the borders on this card.

For the front of the card, I added another ice cream sundae and also added the You're Sweet sentiment which is again layered using the scallop rectangle panel from the Rockin' Rectangles Pop up.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the “Crazies” cards over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and also their individual blogs for more details.
