Hi Crafty Friends,
It’s challenge time with the “Crazies” over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. Karen Ostergard our challenge hostess for the month, continues to issue the challenges.
Brrr, it's cold outside in most of the Northern Hemisphere or it's quite warm in the Southern Hemisphere. Do a winter themed card if you live in the north and a summer themed card if you live in the south!
I had intended to do a winter themed card as I have a few stamp sets I want to play with that are winter themed. However once Santa arrived back in December, I discovered I had a few summer themed stamps & dies to use too. So as I do live in the south and it is HOT down here right now I went with a summer theme.
I created a Center Step card using Divinity Designs Center Step card with Layers die set. As I wanted the background of my card to be sky, I just die cut the die from blue cardstock and then blended on Distress Oxide inks in Broken China and Faded Jeans.
I have been wanting to purchase the Spellbinders Truckin Through the Seasons die set for about 12 months or more ever since it was the Die of the month in October 2018. Postage is expensive to Australia from Spellbinders, especially back then so I couldn't justify the expense. However during their Thanksgiving sales in November, it was available at a reasonable price and the postage was a little better so as the only way I was ever going to get this die set was to order from Spellbinders (it's is exclusive to them) ... I decided to place an order for this and a few other dies.
Of course as this is a summer themed card, I added the surf board and ball to the back of the truck. The "Hooray" licence plate was also included in the die set, however there is an additional die set available with even more licence plates to use for various occasions.
Along the bottom of the card, I added some sand hills using the Lawn Fawn Stitched Hillside Borders. I die cut these from white cardstock and then colored using Distress Oxide Inks in Antique Linen and Brushed Corduroy.
One the two sides of the card I added a palm tree using an older MFT Stamps die set which I am pretty sure has long since been retired.
The sun was created using a circle from Hero Arts Infinity Circles die set. I also added some seagulls to the top of the card, using Couture Creations Seagulls Over The Ocean die set, which is another older die set from my stash.
To finish off the card, I added the "Surf's Up!" sentiment from Starving Artistamps Tropical Sentiments #2.
For the inside of my card, I die cut the inner die from Cherry Lynn Designs Step Card die set which is a similar die set to the Center Step card I used. However this die set has long since been retired, but as it fits the inside of my card I decided to use it, as it is easier than trying to cut by hand.
I added a sand hill to the base of the panel and added two sentiments using MFT Stamps. The "Happy Birthday" is from their Bitty Birthday Sentiments, and the "Sun-Sational Day" is from an older Doodle Garden Aloha Stamp set.
Don't forget to check out the rest of the “Crazies” cards over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and also their individual blogs for more details.
