June 2019 Karen Burniston Designer Challenge

Hi Crafty Friends!!!

Welcome to our June Karen Burniston Designer Challenge.

Check out Karen Burniston's blog on Wednesday (US Time) when you will be able to see what all the designers created for the challenge this month, plus Karen will have an amazing video tutorial to share with us all.

Our challenge theme this month is .... "BEACH DAY!" - celebrate the sea with a tropical card.

For my card today I used the Oval Frames Pop-up die set, I added designer paper to the background of both the front and inside of my card by using the largest rectangle from the Crosshatch Rectangles die set.

Along the bottom edge of each panel I added some sand, using the sand border from the Nature Edges die set.

I used the small stand along palm tree from the Palm Trees Pop-up die set which I placed on the right and left hand sides of the card.

The larger crab on the right hand side of the card is from the Ocean Animals die set and the smaller one is from Sea Animals die set. Each of the crabs are holding ice creams which are from the Sweet Treats Charms die set.

For the bucket and spade I used the Adirondack Chair Pop-up die set. The shells are all from the Tropical Scene die set.

For the Oval Frame section at the top of the card I added a stamped sentiment which is from Honey Bee Stamps Mermaid Song Clear Stamp set.

The sun & palm trees on the oval are again from the Tropical Scene die set. The clouds and bird (which is supposed to be a seagull for this card) are from the Outdoor Scene die set.

For the front of the card I added palms trees, using the small and large tree from the Palm Tree Pop-up die set. I again added the two crabs that I added to the inside but this time have them playing with a beach ball which is from the Beach Charms die set.

May 2018 Karen Burniston Designer Challenge

Hi Crafty Friends,

Welcome to our May Karen Burniston Designer Challenge.

Check out Karen Burniston's blog on Wednesday (US Time) when you will be able to see what all the designers created for the challenge this month, plus Karen will have an amazing video tutorial to share with us all.

Our challenge theme this month is .... "PARADISE"

I thought "Paradise" might be an island destination. I used Karen Burniston's Palm Tree Pop-up die set to create this fun beach themed pop-up card.

I started with a piece of white cardstock which I colored using Catherine Pooler's Shea Butter ink. I then created the palm tree pop-up placing this in the centre of the card. I added two extra palm trees on either side of the main palm tree to give it extra depth.

To the front of the palm trees I added the cute Stamping Bella Tropical Squidgies images ... this is the smaller image of the two that comes in the set.

I used the Tropical Scene die set to create the ocean on both edges of my card, sponging on Salty Ocean Distress Oxide to each piece and spritz with water from a Distress Sprayer.

I added the cute little swimmer which is from Stamping Bella's The Littles Palm Tree set, this set also had the pineapple and coconut drink which I thought worked well with the image in front of the palm tree, so I added a few of those to the card. I also added a few shell die cuts which are also from the Tropical Scene die set.

I added the Happy Birthday sentiment to the front portion of the inside of the card.

Here is an overhead shot of my card so you can see the complete inside of the card at the one time. As you can see on the back ocean panel I added a shark and crab both from the Sea Animals die set. I couldn't resist giving the crab a pina colada to hold in it's claw haha!

I also used the middle sized label from the Katherine Label Pop-up die set for the sentiment.

Here is a short video showing my card in action.

For the front of the card I created my beach scene using dies from the Tropical Scene, and the individual palm tree from the Palm Tree Pop-up die set.

This time around I added the larger of the squidgies from the Stamping Bella  Tropical Squidgies stamp set.

To finish the card I added the "Hooray" from the Words Set 4 - Just a Note die set.

My Little Pirate

Hi Crafty Friends,

Today I am sharing another card using some of the new Karen Burniston die set released in January.

This time around I have used the Palm Tree Pop-up die set to create my pirate scene card. To start I used Distress Oxide Inks to color the base of my card. I then die cut the pop-up die that comes with the Palm Tree Pop-up die set towards the back of my card and die cut the pop up palm tree and two smaller palm trees also included in the set. I assembled my palm tree and attached it to the card.

I used a combination of three different pirate themed stamp sets to create the background scene. And added a dashed line trail around the whole card.

I stamped some of the images onto white cardstock and cut them out using my Scan N Cut and adhere them to my card. I attached the two pirates to the pop up palm trees and also added a pirate to one of the trees.

I hand cut the lake to the shape I wanted and colored that also using distress oxide inks.

I used the Word Set 5 - Royalty die set to die cut the "My Little on the fishtail banner and then added the word "pirate" to the right hand side of the banner using white embossing ink.

Above the banner I stamped "Happy Birthday". I used the Numbers die set to add the "8th" to the card. As my Grandson will be turning 8 in a few months, I will probably use this for his birthday card.

For the front of my card, I continued my pirate scene. I used distress oxide inks to color my sky and sand areas of my card.

For the beach area, I used the Tropical Scene and Nature Edges die sets, adding another two pirates to the beach. The sun is also from the Tropical Scene die set.

I die cut the "Happy Birthday" from red and black cardstock and adhered them to each other offsetting slightly so the black showed a slight border and added this sentiment to the top of the card.

To finish off the card I added a couple of birds in the sky.

Here is a look at my card when it is half closed, so you can see how the palm tree folds towards the side of the card as it is closing.
