Karen Burniston Designer Challenge - March 2021

Welcome to our March Karen Burniston Designer Challenge.

Check out Karen Burniston's blog on Wednesday (US Time) when you will be able to see what all the designers created for the challenge this month, plus Karen will have an amazing video tutorial to share with us all.

Our challenge theme this month is ... "BLACK, WHITE AND A POP OF ?" - make a card of any theme that is primarily black and white, but features a "pop" of any other color.

For my card today I decided to pull out the Fancy Label Accordion die set to create a wedding color. My pop of any other color was gold.

I die cut the main pages from the die set from black and white cardstock so that the pages will alternate. I then used the Fancy Flourish Frames die set to die cut the frames that I adhered to each page. Again these were die cut from white and black cardstock and adhered to the page the opposite color to the actual page. I used gold for my layers between the white and black of all the labels in the centre of each page.

On the first page of my accordion card I used the bride and groom from the Cake Pop-up die set, die cutting the bride from white glitter cardstock and the groom from black. The "Congrats" is from Word Set 8 - Congrats die set, this was die cut from white glitter cardstock and black and then adhered together with a slight offset to create a shadow.

For the second page, I added the Happy; Wedding and Day dies from Word Set 12 - Anniversary die set.  This was die cut from white glitter cardstock and adhered to the black label on the page.

For my third page in my card I die cut the rings from the Treasure Charms die set. I die cut the ring twice from gold cardstock and once from white glitter cardstock. I removed the jewel from one of the rings so it looked like a wedding ring and added the white glitter jewel to the other so it looked like an engagement ring. I also die cut a number of the rings from white cardstock which I adhered under the gold rings to give the rings some dimension.

For the final page of my card, I cut a piece of black cardstock and patterned paper that were the same size as the pages. I added this to the tab at the end of the accordion.

I used the two of the ovals from the Ovals - Crosshatch die set to add to the centre of this panel. I also added one to the back of this page for a place to handwrite a personal message to the happy couple.

I used the sentiment from the Happily Ever After die set to add to the ovals.

Here is a look at my accordion card when it is closed ready to be placed in an envelope. The gold hearts that I added for some embellishment are from the Heart Pivot Panels die set.
