Tickled Pink

Hi everyone,

It's challenge time with my friends over on the CCEE Stampers challenge blog. Our challenge hostess for the month, Liz continues to issue the challenges.

We are coming up on June 21st, the longest day of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere). In honor of that, let’s make long cards for this week’s challenge.

Of course down here where I live the 21st June will actually be our shortest day of the year, but I think I preferred making a long card rather than a short one haha.

When I first thought about this challenge, I did think of making a tall or long narrow card. But just before I got down to making my card I realised that an Accordion Card could also be classed as a long card .... mine is a lot longer than any other card I could make haha ... so I decided to create an Accordion card combining the Katie Label Accordion Card and Rectangle Accordion Card die sets designed by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs.

Normally when I make an Accordion card I would make my card with either 2 or 3 pages, but seeing this was a 'long' challenge I decided to use 4 pages and I also ended up adding the Decorative Doily from the Paris Edges set which makes my card a little longer. When it is opened this card measures approx 11 1/4 inches. Long enough??

To decorate my card I decided to play with a new die and stamp set I purchased recently from MFT Stamps. And seeing it was flamingos and pink sentiments, I kept with the pink theme for my card. 

Here is a closer look at the last two pages and the decorate edge of my card. To cover the join where the decorative edge is attached I added a Pink Glitter Border Peel Off Sticker from Elizabeth Craft Designs. I also added Pink Glitter Dot Peel Off Stickers to the hearts.

And finally the front of my card when it is closed ready to be placed in an envelope.

Hello Friend

Hi everyone,

It's time for another CHF challenge over on the Cornish Heritage Farms Blog. This week the challenge is hosted by Amber.

Amber tells us that June is National Adopt a Cat Month so for our challenge this week we are to make a card with a cat on it.

For my card this week I have used Cornish Heritage Farms' Cat in Flowerpot Digital Stamp. I love this stamp, and I am lucky enough to have it in rubber as I purchased it from the original Cornish Heritage Farms.

I created a pull card using the Rectangle Pull Card die set designed by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs.

Here is my card when I pull it open. Here I have used a sentiment from Cornish Heritage Farms' Friend Expressions stamp set.

Karen Burniston June Designer Challenge Day 2

Hi everyone,

As promised yesterday I am back with my second card for the June Karen Burniston Designer Challenge. This time around the theme for our challenge is WHAT'S IN A NAME? - Oh this is a doozy! Everyone has to incorporate two Pop it Ups dies according to your first and last initials.

With my initials, I seem to have quiet a few choices ... I could have made a third card and would have used different dies again, but I haven't. For the letter 'F' I have used Hoppy the Frog and of course frogs also love flies! The letter 'B'  was pretty easy, I used the Bathtub.

For the base of my card I have used the Bathtub Pop Stand Card. I die cut the bath using White Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz and Silver Metallic Shimmer Sheetz. I wanted the bath to have water running so I added the whiskers from Whiskers the Cat to the tap.

Hoppy the Frog looks like he is having a very relaxing bath, don't you think! Karen Burniston created a card last month using Hoppy and I used the front of that card as inspiration to help position Hoppy in the bathtub, you can see Karen's card here. This does of course involve cutting off both sets of legs off Hoppy and repositioning them, but Hoppy didn't feel a thing haha!

For Hoppy's tongue I used the party blower from the Props 2 Party set and then added a fly to the tip of the blower/tongue.

I used the decorative doily from the Paris Edges set which I positioned on the edge on both sides of the card.

Finally I added my sentiment using the Alphabet 1 Caps set for the word "HOPPY" and then I used the word 'Birthday' from the Happy Birthday die.

Here is another view of my card, this time so you can see the whole card from above. For this Pop Stand Card, I created it so it didn't matter which way I looked at the card it would be the same. As Hoppy the Frog is symmetrical, it was pretty easy just to cut a second body, this time cutting so that the Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape was facing the die when I cut so that the body would be able to be attached to the back of the black solid body. All I had to do was make sure I positioned the arms to the frog before I attached the body to the back of the black solid body.  

Here is the front of the card. This time round I die cut two more Hoppy the Frogs. One I kept as it is supposed to look and the second one I cut off the hind legs and repositioned them so that he looks like he is leap frogging over the other Hoppy the Frog.

Karen Burniston June Designer Challenge Day 1

Hi everyone,

It's time for our June Karen Burniston Designer Challenge. This time around the theme for our challenge is WHAT'S IN A NAME? - Oh this is a doozy! Everyone has to incorporate two Pop it Ups dies according to your first and last initials.

This is definitely one of those times when I am grateful for the name I was given and married into as I had a number of options to select from. 

Of course as my name is Frances Byrne, I had to use something starting with the letter 'F' - Flies from the Hoppy the Frog set and the letter 'B' - Brownie the Cow of the barn from the Barn Pop Stand Card ... either work.

I decided to create a pop up card and I used the Lots of Pops Pop Up Card set for my base card. I added the hay stacks and pitchforks to the barn which are from the Hay There Pop Stand Card set. 

Leading from the barn to the edge of the card I have created a path using the Pebbles die set, I had all these pieces left from another card I created recently. The clouds on the blue panel are from the All Seasons Tree die set. 

As I wanted this to be a birthday card and I didn't have a lot of room for a sentiment, I decided to use the Alphabet 1 Caps set to create the greeting HB2 Moo. 

I added the flies to around my card, including one on Brownie's face.

Brownie the Cow is attached to my card using the spinner from the Rectangle Pull Card. I made the spinner blend into the card by gluing a piece of blue card to some green card as I used for the pop up card and then die cutting the spinner so the centre of the die was on the centre where the two colors joined. I also cut another so I could back the middle sections only.

And finally the front of my card. I decided to trying combining two of the sentiments blocks from the Farm Greetings Clear Stamp set. I combined the birthday (which is pig related) and the thank you (which is cow related). I used my MISTI and masking tape to stamp various parts of each stamp to make a new sentiment. I had a gap in between the finished sentiment so I stamped the cow from the cow related sentiment onto white card and cut that out and adhered to my sentiment. I did have a few misses before I got the final complete sentiment, but I think that was mostly because the ink pads I was using were either too wet or too dry. Once I grabbed my trusting black ink pad, it didn't take long at all.

Hi everyone,

It's my turn to post a tutorial on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog today.  For my project I decided to create a nautical themed accordion card using the new Maritime Peel-Off Stickers and Fancy Label Accordion Card. I love using the colors red, white and blue for nautical themed cards so that is the colors I used for my card today.

Here is how I created my card:

The Card

Note: Karen Burniston created a video tutorial that you can see HERE showing how to assemble an accordion card.

1.  Die cut the following pieces shown below. To make adhering of the frame edges to the accordion pages easier, adhere a sheet of Transparent Double-Sided Tape to cardstock before you die cut your frame edges pieces.

• 2 Accordion Fancy Label Pages from blue cardstock
• 1 Accordion Fancy Label Page from red cardstock
• 3 large labels from the Accordion Fancy Label Card set from white cardstock
• 4 star frames from the Star Fancy Frame Edges from blue cardstock
• 12 slotted frames from the Star Fancy Frame Edges from red cardstock (tip: For the Frame Edges I use most often I buy an additional die set so it is quicker to die cut the edges.)

2. Apply Transparent Double-Sided Adhesive Tape to the long tabs of one blue and the red Fancy Label Accordion Pages. Join each page together so you have alternate colors (blue, red, blue). You can trim off the large tab from the last page.

3. Attach the red slotted frame edges to the two blue pages and also to the front of the first blue page. Attach the blue star frame edges to the centre red page.

4. Use foam tape to attach the white labels to each page.

5. Creating the images to decorate the card –

a.  Before reading the instructions below, you can see a video Els created using this technique here.

b.  Place a sheet of Transparent Double-Sided Adhesive onto cardstock that is big enough for your peel-offs and remove the release sheet.

c.  Be careful not to touch the adhesive or it will leave fingerprints in the glitter.

d.  From the Maritime peel-offs, place the Ship; Yacht; Anchor; Ships Wheel (2); Message in a Bottle; Telescope;  peel-offs  onto the release sheet (sticky side up). (I used an additional Ships Wheel from a second Maritime Peel-Off Sticker Sheet.

e.  Place the cardstock that has Transparent Double-Sided Adhesive on top of the peel-off. (In other words, place sticky onto sticky.)

f.  Use release sheet in handling the cardstock until you cover the adhesive with glitter so you don’t leave fingerprints.

g.  Cover the adhesive with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter, polish glitter with your finger and brush excess off.

h.  Color your images as desired using alcohol-based markers on the glitter.

i.  Cut around all peel-off pieces.

j. Color white edges with a black permanent marker to give a more finished look.

* Coloring Tips for alcohol-based markers and glitter: Remember that when using alcohol-based markers, such as Copics, work quickly and don’t let the tip of the marker linger on the glittered surface. Too much alcohol ink can dissolve the adhesive and remove the glitter. It takes very little ink to color the surface of the glittered image so work with a light touch. To get the faded look, lay a line of color down along one edge of the section you want to color and then use your Blender pen to pull the color across the rest of the image. You may have to lay more color down to get deeper shading after you blend it out.

6. Using foam tape adhere the Ship to the label on the left hand side of the card. Adhere the Yacht to the label on the right hand side of the card .

7. Using the Alphabet 1 Caps die die cut the letters “AHOY” from blue card and adhere to centre label on card. (Adhere Transparent Double-Sided Tape to cardstock before you die cut your letters). Use the knot peel-off sticker from the Maritime Peel-Off Sticker sheet and adhere to the bottom of the centre label.

8. Glue one of the Ship’s Wheel Peel-Off Stickers to the top left hand corner of the first page, adhere the second wheel to the front of the card so it is lined up behind the other. Adhere the telescope to the lower left hand corner on the front and the message in a bottle to the centre panel. The Anchor is placed on the last page. Refer to photos above for placement.

9.  Apply tape to the two small tabs of the first two fancy labels. Remove the tape from the tabs of the first fancy label and join the first fancy label to the centre fancy label. The fold of the card should be a valley fold while the two fancy labels will form a mountain fold. Remove the tape from the tabs of the center fancy label and bringing the ovals behind the fancy label pages join the last two fancy labels together. The second fold on the card should be a mountain fold and the fold of the fancy labels a valley fold. Trim off the excess small tabs from the last fancy label.

It’s challenge time with the “Crazies” over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog.  Danielle Lounds, our challenge hostess for the month continues to bring us the challenges.

With Father's Day just around the corner lets make a masculine card. Whether it is colors, textures, or stamps include a little masculine touch.

For my card this week, I wanted to play with a new die I purchased recently which is the Couture Creations Father & Son Fishing die. I pulled out my  Centre Step Card die to create the base of my card. 

For the inside of my card I have used the Happy die and I white embossed the words 'Father's Day to the lower right hand corner of this die cut.

Sweet as a Rose

It's challenge time with my friends over on the CCEE Stampers challenge blog. Our challenge hostess for the month, Liz continues to issue the challenges.

Liz tells us that .... The flower for the month of June is roses. There are so many varieties and come in so many pretty colors and shades, so make a card or project that makes use of a rose or a bouquet of roses.

As I recently received this cute Bebunni Sweet as a Rose stamp set for Mother's Day from my daughter who is living in England. I knew I just had to incorporate this image on my card today.

It has been a little while since I have played with the Circle Spiral Pull Card die set designed by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs. I have been using the new Rectangle version a lot recently. I figured it was time to pull it out to play. I made my card a little wider than most of my pull cards as I wanted to be able to see the bunny clearly on the right hand panel.

When you 'pull' the card open it reveals another sentiment which is from another Bebunni stamp set I got with this one. I added a scallop border along the edge of my designer papers and a couple of candy dots to the closure tabs.

So Happy For You

Hi everyone,

Today I have a quick card I made while playing around with the new The Groove Tool from Art-C which I was demoing at the Paper Crafts Show last weekend. 

For this card I used Art Impressions Wuff Stamp set and for the background I embossed the brown card using a Wood Grain Embossing Folder and then used the sanding disk for The Groove Tool distress the embossing a little. I then added a die cut sentiment to the card.

Coffee & Friends

Hi everyone,

It's challenge time again over on the Riley and Company blog. This time round our challenge is hosted by Joy!

For our challenge this week Joy has challenged us to create a card which includes the color Kraft.

For my card today I have used Riley and Company's Funny Bones sentiment, Coffee & Friends. 

I created a Stand-Ups card using the Sizzix Royal Label Stand-Ups Card Framelits. For the Kraft part of the challenge I used Kraft based designer papers.

Here is my card when it is closed ready to be placed in an envelope.
