Spooky Halloween Greetings

Hi everyone,

It's my turn to post a Pop It Up Wednesday tutorial on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog today. This time round I am playing with a few of Karen Burniston's new dies to create a Halloween card. My card features Whiskers the Cat sitting on the witches broomstick, I think the poor witch has fallen off it by the looks of the witches hat and shoes laying on the ground ..... oh dear!

Here's how I created my card:

1. Cut a piece of purple cardstock that measures 11 inches x 5 1/2 inches. Score along the 11 inch edge at 51/2 inches.
  • Place the pop up die that is included in the Twist Circle Pop Up die set so that the top of the die is approximately 3/4 inches from the top edge and the centre alignment nubs are on the fold. Run through die cutting machine.
  • Cut a scrap of purple cardstock that is slightly larger than the long platform arm die included in the Twist Circle Pop Up die set. Run through die cutting machine.

2. Using the Whiskers the Cat die set die cut the following:
  • (1) Solid Cat Body from Grey Cardstock
  • (1) Detail Cat Body from Black Cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the back.
  • (1) set of Whiskers from Grey Cardstock
  • (1) set of Eye from Green Cardstock that has Clear Double  Sided Adhesive Tape on the back.
  • (1) set of Cat Ears from Pink Cardstock that has Clear Double  Sided Adhesive Tape on the back.
  • (1) Cat Nose from Pink Cardstock that has Clear Double  Sided Adhesive Tape on the back.
  • (1) Cat Mouth from Pink Cardstock that has Clear Double  Sided Adhesive Tape on the back.
  • Assemble Whiskers the Cat referring to photo above for reference.
3. Using the Props 9 Die set die cut the following:
  • (1) Broomstick from Brown Cardstock
  • (1) Broom Head from Yellow Cardstock
  • (1) Witches Hat from Grey Cardstock
  • (1) Witches Hat from Black Cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front.
  • (1) set of Witches Shoes from Black Cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front.
  • (1) Witches Hat Band from Purple Cardstock
  • (1) Witches Hat Band from Orange Cardstock
  • (2) Buckles from Gold Cardstock
  • Sponge the edges of the Grey Witches Hat with Pumice Stone Distress Ink. Thread the Purple Hat Band through the Gold Buckle and attach to the Witches Hat.
  • Adhere hat to cat.
  • Assemble Broom (TIP: Make the broom slightly narrower than you would normally so it doesn't get caught when the card opens and closes.
  • Make a cut around the cat's tail and front leg and thread the broom through theses cuts so it appears the cat is sitting on the broom.
  • Attach the cat to the front of the platform arm (refer to Karen Burniston's video if this is the first time you have made this style of card)
  • Fold  card to ensure that the card opens and closes without the Cat catching on anything on the card, if it does make adjustments with the positioning of the cat on the platform arm.

4. Using the Halloween Scene die set die cut the following:
  • (1) Crocked Tree/Branch from black cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the back.
  • (3) Bats from black cardstock that has that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the back.
  • (1) Spider from black cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the back.
  • (1) Spider Web from silver cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the back.
  • (2) Graveyard Scene on a piece of black card that measures 3 inches x 11 inches. Score and fold cardstock in half and line the edge of the die on the fold to cut first side and then line the die up with the piece already cut to cut other side.
  • From the Twist Circle die set, die cut the smallest solid circle from white cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the back.
  • Sponge around the edge of the white circle with pumice stone distress ink. Adhere the circle to the top right hand corner of the card.
  • Adhere the graveyard scene to the bottom edge of the card, adhering one side first and then the other.
  • Adhere the crocked branch to the top left hand side of the card.
  • Adhere the silver spider web over the crocked branch. Attach a small piece of thread to the underside of the adhesive on the web and attach the other end to the spider and adhere that to the card so the spider is hanging from the spiderweb over the graveyard.
  • Adhere the bats to the card referring to the photo above for placement.
5. Using the black hat that we die cut in step 3, remove the protective backing from the front of the hat.
  • Thread the orange hat band through the gold buckle and attach to the hat.
  • Cover the remainder of the exposed adhesive with Pewter Silk Microfine Glitter. Polish the glitter into the adhesive and attach to the bottom right hand side of the card.
  • Using the black witches shoes that were die cut in step 3, remove the protective backing from the front of the shoes and cover with  Pewter Silk Microfine Glitter. Polish the glitter into the adhesive.
  • Cut a piece of orange cardstock approximately 1/4 inch x 2 inches. Cut in half so you have two pieces.
  • Cut a tiny rectangle of green cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the back and attach to orange cardstock to resemble stripes.
  • Adhere the strips of card into each shoe to resemble legs.
  • Attach witches legs/shoes to the bottom left hand side of the card so that it looks like the witch crash landed.
  • Sponge around the edge of the purple card using black ink.

6. The Inside of the Card:
  • Cut a piece of purple cardstock that measures 11 inches x 5 1/2 inches. Score along the 11 inch side at 5 1/2 inches to create a side folding card.

  • Fold the card in half and using the Stage It Stencil - Bats, sponge through the stencil using black ink to create a stencilled background all over the card.
  • Adhere the inside of the card to the card front.
7. Die cut another graveyard scene from the Halloween Scene die set onto a piece of black cardstock that is 3 inches x 5 1/2 inches. Adhere this to the bottom of the front of the card.
  • Sponge around the edge of the purple card using black ink.
8. Using the circles from the Twist Circle Pop Up die set die cut the following:
  • (1) Largest Circle from black cardstock
  • (1) Second Largest Circle from white cardstock
  • (1) Decorative Circle from black cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the back.
  • Layer all circles together using photo as a guide.
  • Using the "Spooky Halloween Greetings" sentiment from the Halloween Clear Stamp set, stamp onto the centre of the circle using black ink.
  • Adhere the circle to the top of the front of the card.

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you enjoyed the tutorial.

Merry Christmas

Hi everyone,

Today I am sharing another Christmas Card.

For the mosaic background I used a new die from Ultimate Crafts. I die cut the mosaic background five times using gold, red, dark red, green and dark green cardstock. I then attached the gold background outline to a piece of cardstock that had Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front. I then paper pieced squares from the other four colored backgrounds.

I decided to make the mosaic a feature of the card rather than cover it up and then added the new A Way with Words "Merry Christmas" sentiment to the bottom of the card.

Rainbow Lorikeet

Hi everyone,

Today I am playing with a couple of new dies from Ultimate Crafts which I got recently. For the Stained Glass Rainbow Lorikeet image, I die cut from black ink and then adhered it to a piece of white card that was covered with Clear Double Sided Adhesive. I then covered the adhesive with Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter and colored the image with Copics.

For the background, I die cut the Oil Paint Background twice from black card that again had Clear Double Sided Adhesive on the back and adhered that to the green cardstock.

Merry Little Christmas

Hi everyone,

It’s challenge time with the “Crazies” over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. This week our challenge hostess Jessie Rone, finishes off the month with one last challenge.

Apparently all Jessie's favorite holidays are coming up, so why not get a jump on one of them!! Make a card for one of the many holidays coming up, be it Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, or Hanukkah!!

One of my friends gave me an adorable set of stamps which contained this cute reindeer which I thought would work well for a Christmas card. I decided to create an Accordion Card using the Ring Accordion Card die set designed by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs.

I used the pine tree edge from the Outdoor Edges die set to create the background of the two pages with the deer. I die cut the edges onto white cardstock that had Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front and then covered the snow areas with Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter and the trees with Silverado Silk Microfine Glitter.

I stamped a Christmas sentiment from Papertrey Ink onto the centre page.

Here is my card when it is closed ready to be placed in an envelope. It is always good to get another Christmas card made at this time of year to add to my stash.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the “Crazies” cards over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and also their individual blogs for more details.

Christmas Greetings

Hi everyone,

It's my turn to post a tutorial on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog today. It's the 25th August today (26th if you are reading this on my blog not the ECD blog) which means it is only 4 months until Christmas, so for my project today I have a Christmas card to share with you using some of the new release products from Joset Designs and A Way with Words as well as two of the new Silk Microfine Glitter colors.

Down in Australia where I live Christmas is in the middle of summer, so no sweaters for us. But if you live in many parts of the Northern Hemisphere it definitely is a time to pull out those sweaters.

For my card today I used a masking technique using the release sheet from the adhesive tape and Silk Microfine Glitter that Els shared with us on a Technique Friday video a few weeks ago. You may want to check out Els' video to get even more ideas what you can do with this technique.

Here's how I created my card:

1. Cut a piece of light blue cardstock so it measures 5 1/2 inches x 11 inches. Score along the 11 inch side at 5 1/2 inches so you have a 5 1/2 inch square top fold card.
  • Using the second largest die from the Stitched Squares die set, die cut a piece of designer paper.
  • Using the largest die from the Dotted Scallop Squares die set, die cut a piece of red cardstock.
  • Layer the two pieces together and adhere to the front of the light blue folded card.
2. Counting from the centre die, use the 5th die from the Stitched Circles die set and die cut a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Counting from the centre die, use the 5th die from the Dotted Scallop Circles die set to die cut a piece of red cardstock.
  • Layer the two pieces together and attach to the top left hand corner of the card using foam tape.

3. From the Winter Sweater die set die cut the following:
  • (1) Sweater from White Soft Finish Cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front.
  • (1) set of Sweater Trim from White Soft Finish Cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front..
  • (9) Snowflakes from saved release sheet of Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.
Also die cut the following:
  • (1) A Way with Words Cozy sentiment from the saved release sheet of Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape.

4. Remove the release sheet from each of the Sweater Trim pieces and cover the adhesive with Bright Cranberry Silk Microfine Glitter. Brush off excess glitter and return to jar. Polish the glitter into the adhesive using your finger.
  • Turn down the release sheet from the collar and cuffs of the sweater and attach the glittered sweater trim to sweater.
  • Remove the release sheet completely from the sweater and place the word "Cozy" to the adhesive so it is towards the top of the sweater.
  • Now place the snowflakes around the remaining adhesive area using the photo above as a guide.
  • Place the sweater release sheet back over the sweater and rub all over to ensure that all the "release sheet masks" are attached to the adhesive. Remove the release sheet.

5. Cover the remaining adhesive area of the sweater with Faded Denim Silk Microfine Glitter. Carefully brush off excess glitter and return to jar. Polish the glitter into the adhesive using your finger.
  • Remove the "Cozy" release sheet from the sweater and cover the adhesive area with Bright Cranberry Silk Microfine Glitter. Brush off excess glitter and return to jar. Polish the glitter into the adhesive using your finger.
  • Next remove all the snowflake release sheet pieces and cover the adhesive areas with Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter. Brush off excess glitter and return to jar. Polish the glitter into the adhesive using your finger.
  • Attach the sweater at a slight angle on the layered circle on front of card using foam tape.
6. Cut a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock which is approximately 1 inch x 2 7/8 inches.
  • Stamp the sentiment "Christmas Greetings" from the Winter Sentiments Clear Stamp set onto the white cardstock using black ink so that the sentiment is close to the right side edge.
  • Cut a "V" into the left hand side of card.
  • Cut a piece of red cardstock 1 1/8 inches x 3 inches.
  • Layer the white cardstock to the red cardstock and cut out a "V" so that it matches the border around the rest of the panel.
  • Adhere sentiment to lower right hand side of card.
Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you enjoyed my tutorial.

Lavender & Peppermint

Hi everyone,

It's challenge time with my friends over on the CCEE Stampers challenge blog. Liz Williams our challenge hostess for the month finishes off the month with one last challenge.

Apparently Monday 29th August is More Herbs, Less Salt Day!! Herbs and plants add so much to our lives, so in honor of this unusual day, make a card with an herb or plant on it. I know we have lots of followers who love gardening, so any of these images would work great. You might even want to add colors that are named after herbs and plants: sage, thyme, lavender, cinnamon, nutmeg, mint, celery, olive, or cocoa, as well as all those you can think of.

I wasn't sure if I had any herb stamps, but then I remembered some I had from my early days on the MFT Stamps Design Team so I was able to dig those out to use on my card. As you can see I have created an Accordion Card using the Oval Accordion Card die set designed by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs. I also added the corners from the Oval Landscape Accordion die set on all the pages of my card.

Here is my card when it is closed ready to be placed in an envelope.

Don't forget to check out the CCEE Stampers blog (goes live 12 AM EST) to see the rest of the creations the CCEE Stampers created this week. You can also see more details of their creations on their individual blogs:

Snappy Birthday

Hi everyone,

My card today is for a challenge I do each month with a couple of friend of mine. Each month we get together to share ideas and have fun. This time round our challenge was to use any of Karen Burniston's Character dies to create our cards.

The character I selected to use for this challenge is Rocky the Crab. I created a Pop Up card using the Anita Frames Pop Up card die set.

I decorated the left side of my card using the Palm Tree from the Palm Tree and Pail die set. On the right hand side I added Rocky, I added the crown from the Anita Frames Pop Up which makes him a king crab, right!

I added the sentiment by mixing a number of different sentiments from one stamp set to get the word Snappy from Happy and Congratulations ... the ns at the end of the word turned upside down worked well for the SN.

For the front of my card I added another Rocky the Crab this time wearing the snorkel from the Props  3 die set. The sun is from the Oval Pull Card die set.

Happy Anniversary

Hi everyone,

Today I am sharing an Anniversary I created. For this card I have used the A Way with Words Happy Anniversary sentiment from Elizabeth Craft Designs. I have layered 4 words on top of each other to give it extra height. On the top layer I die cut the word with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the top and then covered the adhesive with Lavender Ice Silk Microfine Glitter.

For the background I used a background die from Ultimate Crafts, which is layered onto squares using Elizabeth Craft Designs Fitted Squares and Dotted Scallop Squares.

August 2016 Pop It Ups Designer Challenge #2

Welcome to our second Pop It Ups challenge for August. This time round, Shelly issues the challenge which is 'Girly or Ghouly' - think pretty, shabby, feminine or French or Halloween creations.

As you can see by looking at my card above I decided to go 'Girly and French'.

For my card I used the Anita Frames Pop Up die set for the base of my card. This is such a fun style of card to create.

I added the Paris Edges to each side of my card and along the very edge of the card added a Pink/Silver Glitter Border Peel Off Sticker. I also added the Eiffel Tower from the Eiffel Tower Pop Stand Card which I die cut from cardstock which had Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front and then covered the adhesive with Copper Rose Silk Microfine Glitter.

On the labels on the centre of the card I added sentiments and the Eiffel Tower image from the Just a Note Clear Stamp set.

For the front of the card I have again used the Paris Edges on either side of the designer paper. I also added more of the Pink/Silver Glitter Border Peel Off Sticker along the edge of the designer paper.

To finish off my card I added another Eiffel Tower from the Eiffel Tower Pop Stand Card  which also has the Copper Rose Silk Microfine Glitter.

If you are looking to purchase Karen's Pop It Ups dies in Australia you can find them at Craft Giraffe (now online only).

Don't forget to check out  Karen Burniston's blog  on Tuesday when you will be able to see what all the designers created for the challenge this month, plus an amazing card/video tutorial from Karen Burniston.

Celebrate

Hi everyone,

Today I am playing with a few leftover frames of the Fitted Frames 4 Curvy Ovals from Elizabeth Craft Designs. This card is similar to another card I created earlier in the year but not exactly the same, I used a different sentiment and also different layers of the frame. The white oval from the Stitched Ovals die set fits inside the frame perfectly, giving you even more layering options :).

The A Way with Words Celebrate word was die cut with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front and then cover with Dark Mint Silk Microfine Glitter.
