Hello, Happy Birthday

Hi Crafty Friends,

It’s challenge time with the “Crazies” over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. Being a brand new month it is time to introduce a new challenge hostess which is Maryann Einam.

For our challenge this week, Maryann is giving us a chance to use some of our leftover papers, make a card using paper or card strips/scraps.

If it is one thing I have plenty of it is scrap pieces of cardstock ... tons of it! So this was a great challenge to play around and get rid of a few of those pieces at least.

There are a lot of options when it comes to using scraps, but I was inspired by a video from Jennifer McGuire which you can find here.

To create my background on my card, I cut pieces of card into 1/2" strips (the pink pieces) and 1/4" strips (the grey pieces). These were then adhered to a large sheet of paper that had Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front. I then trimmed this down so I could use some of the front of the card and some to the sides on the inside of the card.

I used the Hello Edge'able from Crafter's Companion for the sentiment along the bottom of the card and then added flowers using Altenew's Dotted Blooms.

For the inside of the card, I used Karen Burniston's Snowman Twist Circle Pop-up die set adding sentiments from Catherine Pooler's Awesome and Wonderful Clear Stamp set.

I also added two more of the floral images to each side of my card.

Happy New Year Crafty Friends!!!

Welcome to our January Karen Burniston Designer Challenge.

Check out Karen Burniston's blog on Wednesday (US Time) when you will be able to see what all the designers created for the challenge this month, plus Karen will have an amazing video tutorial to share with us all.

Our challenge theme this month is ....  "NEW" - try something new to you. Is it a technique? A color scheme? A style (cute? grungy?) Here's your chance to usher in the new year with something new.

For today's challenge I decided to go with a new technique inspired by a technique Karen Burniston shared for our November Designer Challenge the Twist Circle Forest technique which you can see on Karen's blog here. 

As soon as I saw Karen's video I knew I would need to make a card using this technique, but at the time I was busy making Christmas card, so today's challenge was the perfect opportunity. I knew I wanted to have trees on the background paper, but the one I wanted to use I think I had already used up, so after a quick search online I found some digital paper which I printed out and I think works well for this challenge. 

I used the Snowman Twist Circle Pop-up and the Evergreen Pivot Panels to create my card. Along the bottom edge of the card I also used the border from the Nature Edges die set to create the grass area.

I had been waiting until after Christmas to make my card as I wanted to use one of the stamp sets I received for Christmas. While I was making the card the forest reminded me of the Harry Potter scene where he and his friends go into the forest and as I got the Students of Magic stamp set from Kindred Stamps I knew I need to use this set on my card.

Can you see the elf peeking out from behind the tree.

The sentiment used on this card is from another Kindred Stamps stamp set Wizard Friends, which I think is now retired.

For the front of the card I copied some of the elements I used on the inside of my card. I also added a birthday sentiment which is from the Word Set 2 - Birthday die set.

Today I am sharing a pop up card I created recently using Karen Burniston's Snowman Twist Circle Pop-up die set. It has been a while since I played with this set as I have been having lots of fun playing with Karen's newer pop-up die sets. This die set is a lot of fun, so it was great to be able to pull it out and play with it.

To decorate my card I used Avery Elle's Critter Crew Clear Stamp set. I have had this stamp set sitting on my desk waiting to be used for a little while now, so it was good to ink that up finally.

On either side of the card I added sentiments from a Mama Elephant sentiment set, using the labels from the Katherine Label Pop-up die set.

For the front of the card I used MFT Stamps Happy Birthday Block die to create the birthday sentiment.

Here is one final photo showing my card as it is closing, the circle part of the card "twists" to the opposite direction as it closes.

A Green Birthday Card

Welcome to our February Paper Pros challenge. This month our challenge is again hosted by Raquel Mason. As St Patricks Day is just a few days away, Raquel has given us the theme of .... Green.  

I was going to do something different that what I finally came up with for this challenge, but decided what I was going to do probably didn't have enough green in it. So as you can see I ended up pulling out my Snowman Twist Circle Pop-up Card die set, which has been neglected this year while I have been playing will all Karen Burniston's new release dies to make a Twist Circle Pop-up Card.

I think you would agree that there is no denying that this is a green card!

To decorate my card I used the Outdoor Scene die set to create the cute deer and the trees on the pop-up circle part of this card.

I used the two larger labels from the Katherine Label Pop-up die set to stamp the "It's Your" and "birthday".

I used the Gift Card Label die set and the Happy Birthday die to decorate the front of my card, adding a bronze rhinestone to the centre of the fleur de lis.

Sprinkled with Love

It’s challenge time with the “Crazies” over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. Rebecca Ednie our challenge hostess for the month finishes off her month with one last challenge.

This week Rebecca has given us an Inspiration Challenge - be inspired by this photo. Please use a cake or mint/aqua, coral, gold and white or ivory. Brownie points for doing both





Rebecca has given us the option of either mint or aqua in the color combo, so I went for aqua on my card as I knew I had inks and cardstock etc that would coordinate.

As I had recently picked up the new Sprinkles Turnabout from Concord & 9th, I wanted to play with that for my background this week. So I stamped it onto my ivory cardstock using two colors rather than 4. I still stamped it out 4 times, just alternated between the aqua and the coral inks.

For my card I have used the Snowman Twist Circle Pop-up card (without the snowman) from Karen Burniston for the base of my card. I was able to join two 6 x 6 pieces of decorated cardstock together to create the base of my card.  I then layered this piece onto a piece of folded coral cardstock. I have attached the circle layer of the twist circle to the upper part of the arm rather than the lower section, doing this allows you to display the card standing upright rather than lying down. 

I used both the large and small cupcakes from Karen's Cupcake Pop-up die set, I die cut the frosting from gold cardstock so that I used the 'gold' needed for the challenge somewhere on my card. Once I had assembled all my cupcakes I decorated the frosting using Nuvo drops.

I added two of the sentiments from the Sprinkles Turnabout stamp set to the inside of my card.



For the front of my card I used another piece of background paper that I created using the Sprinkles Turnabout stamp set. 

I used the largest label from the Katherine Label Pop-up set to cut a piece of ivory cardstock and two from coral cardstock. I then cut one of the coral pieces in half vertically and the other horizontally and layered them behind the ivory label so I had a border all around.

Using masking I stamped the "Sprinkled with Love" sentiment which is normally a two line sentiment (like those on the inside of the card) so that it was a single line and die cut the sentiment using a banner die.

Happy Snappy Birthday

It’s challenge time with the “Crazies” over on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. Rebecca Ednie our challenge hostess for the month continues to issue the challenges.

Let's make an interactive card. There are so many cool dies out there for slider,  shaker, pop-up, spinner, lift-a-flap and so many more. if you don't have dies, many of these cards can also be built by hand the way we did it before all the dies! These cards bring so much joy to the recipient! And they are tons of fun to make!

Of course the hardest part of this challenge for me was which type of interactive card would I make! Any one who knows me, knows how much I love interactive cards and I have so many different dies to make so many different types of cards ... these are my favorite dies ever!!!



In the end I decided to make a Twist Circle Pop-up card using Karen Burniston's Snowman Twist Circle Pop-up die set. I think I changed my mind three or four times, before I finally made a decision LOL! 

I did this card a little differently for a change, adding the circle to the upper section of the arm rather than the lower section, so that the card is view how a card would normally stand. I saw a card using this idea that fellow Karen Burniston Design Team member, Fran Sabad created a few weeks ago and had to give it a try and love it.

This time around I am playing with some new stamps from a brand new company .... Happy Sanppy Crocs from Heffy Doodle. I actually ended up using some sentiments and images from a couple of other stamp sets from this company to complete my card

I used the Nature Edges die set to create the grass panels along the bottom of the card.




For the front of the card, I added two more of the cute crocodiles. The banners the croc is holding is from the Elephant of Surprise stamp set also from Heffy Doodle. I also added a banner border along the top right hand corner.

Welcome to our Paper Pros challenge for September. This time around our challenge is hosted Karen Burniston.

For our challenge this time round, Karen has challenge us to create something with a Halloween theme.

I decided to use the Snowman Twist Circle die set to create the base of the card, using the twist circle part of the card as the moon

I started with a piece of watercolor paper to which I sponged Wilted Violet and Black Soot Distress Oxide inks all over and then spritzed the panel with water. 

I die cut the graveyard scene which is from Karen Burniston's Halloween Scene die set, twice from black cardstock and adhered them to the bottom of both sides of my card. I also  die cut the tree, spider and 3 bats from this die set and added them to the card. 

For the moon I die cut the largest circle from the Snowman Twist Circle die set and sponged around the edge with black soot distress ink, I then carefully pounced my blender tool that I used for the black soot over the cardstock and added water, to give the circle a moon look. I added two of the bats onto the moon.

I also added the hands, pumpkin, ghosts, crow, witches hat and Boo! which are all from the Halloween Elements die set and added those to my scene.

For the front of the card I created another background panel using the Wilted Violet and Black Soot Distress Oxide inks. 

I added another of the graveyard scenes, used the small circle from the Snowman Twist Circle die set for the moon, adding black ink like I did for the moon on the inside and adding some bats and a crow.



Here you can see my card as it is starting to close. The "moon" starts to twist towards the right hand side as the card begins to close.



And finally, my card when it is  closed which is flat so it can be placed in an envelope.

Do You Want to Build a Snowman?

Hi Crafty Friends,

Ever since Karen Burniston posted her Snowman Twist Circle card on her blog last year I knew I wanted to create one, which I didn't get around to do last year. A few months ago when Karen re released her Twist Circle Pop Up as a Snowman Twist Circle Pop Up, I knew that eventually I would make one. Of course you don't have to create a snowman to make use of this fun die set, but it was a good excuse to do so.

The inside of my card looks similar to one that Karen created, with the snowman in the centre and the snow across the bottom of the card. These two things just go perfectly together. I did add a stamped sentiment to the top right hand corner of my card and also some snowflakes. 

The designer paper I used on my card has been staring at me for a few weeks as it has been sitting on the top of my paper stash at the end of my desk. I knew that this would be perfect for a snowman card. Although I only had a small piece so had to be a little create using it for the front of my card.

I decided to die cut all the snowman elements and add them to the snow as if they were preparing to make a snowman (or if you live where I do, you may have made it but it has already melted haha .... although you need snow in the first place to do the later right 😉.

I computer generated the sentiment.

And finally a look at my card as it is closing, you can see that the snowman is now turned to the side as the card closes.

It's challenge time with my friends over on the CCEE Stampers challenge blog. As challenge hostess for the month I continue to issue the challenges!!!

Yesterday was World Music Day; Music Day and Make Music Day .... so let's include something music related on our cards this week.



I decided to play with the new Snowman Twist Circle die set from Karen Burniston. Instead of using the snowman that comes in the set I added my music image instead. This die set has sooooo many options.

To decorate my card I used an old stamp from my stash ... froggy Elvis from Alota Rubber Stamps (unfortunately this company is no longer in business). I also used some old "Elvis" themed stamps that I purchased from the old  Cornish Heritage Farms many years ago. The music notes are from Tonic Studios.



Here you can see my card as it is closing. The circle in the centre of the card moves towards the right side of the card.



Here is a look at my card when it is closed ... totally flat so it can fit into an envelope.



And finally one last photo this time of the front of the card. I used the Elvis background stamp for the side panel and then added the Memory Box Happy Birthday and a Guitar from MFT Stamps.
