Fortune Cookies

Hi Crafty Friends,

Apparently yesterday (22nd January), was Chinese New Year so for my card today I decided to create a card which had a Chinese/Oriental theme.

For my card, I created a Double Gatefold Card using Creative Craft Products Double Gatefold Card die set which is available from Craft Stash. I love the look of the diamond shape that is formed when the card is closed and I thought it would work well with an Oriental theme.

I used gold mirror cardstock for my matting layer and oriental themed papers for the background paper.

I added gold metallic pearls to the diamond section on the front of my card.

Here is a look at my card when it is partially open.

As there isn't any room on my card when it is closed, I added the fortune cookies to the inside of my card. I thought this sentiment would work for either a New Year for Chinese New Year or a birthday which is what I ended up making my card for as I didn't have a need for the former.

The fortune cookies and sentiment are both older sets from MFT Stamps.

I added a panel to the back of the card as the place to add a birthday sentiment and also a place to write a personal message to the recipient of the card.

Santa Octagon Double Gatefold

Hi Crafty Friends,

I have a fun Octagonal Shaped Christmas card to share with you all today.

A little while ago, I purchased some Creative Craft Products Nested die sets which were on special, Craft Stash always have some great specials on their website almost everyday. These die sets include the same shaped nested die from the smallest size possible to approximately 8 inches. Now I am not sure if I will ever need the 8 inch sized ones, but who can tell for sure. I have been making a lot of larger cards lately, now that I make so many Slimline, 5 x 7 and square cards, so I was after larger sized nested shaped dies. One I got in this sale was the Nested Octagonal die set that has 24 dies included in it. A while later Craft Stash released the Filigree Shaped Nested die sets, so I got a few of these ... I think I might need the rest of them now as I just love them. Anyway now that I have both die sets, I decided to pull them out to make an Octagonal Double Gatefold Card.

Here is a look at my card when the card is partly opened. I used holographic card stock to die cut all the filigree layers.

On the centre panel, I added Santa which is from Made To Surprise by Sam Calcott's Santa Claus stamp/die set.

The finished card is 6 x 6 so will fit into a 6 x 6 envelope.

Here is a look at my card when it is fully opened, the paper used on this card is from the Made To Surprise Shutter Blind Collection Paper Pad.

To create the base of my card, I took a piece of 6 x 12 cardstock and folded it in half, I then die cut the octagonal shape making sure that the cutting lines on one side were just over the fold line so it wouldn't cut. I repeated this with another piece of card and then adhered one of the octagonal panels over one from the other die cut piece so that I had a trifold card. Then it was just a matter of scoring and folding the two side panels in half to create the gatefold card.

I used die from both of the octagonal die sets to create the layers for my card.

And finally a close up look at the centre panel. I stamped the Merry Christmas and images which are all from the Santa Claus stamp/die set.

Congrats! Double Gatefold Card

Hi everyone,

It's my turn to post a tutorial on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog today. For my card today I have created a Double Gatefold Card using the ModaScrap Gatefold - Elegant Roses die set. This is a different way to create a Gatefold Card using this die.

Here is how I created my card:

Step 1 - Cut a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock that measures 5 3/4 inches x 11 inches. Score along the 11 inch side at 2 3/4 inches and 8 1/4 inches.
  • Cut 4 pieces of designer paper of your choice 2 3/4 inches x 5 3/4 inches.
  • Using the Gatefold - Elegant Roses die, die cut two pieces using dark pink cardstock, leaving approximately a 1/2 inch edge on the other side of score line.
  • Cut a piece of dark pink cardstock 5 1/4 inches x 5 1/2 inches
  • Cut a piece of White Soft Finish Cardstock 5 inches x 5 1/4 inches.

Step 2 - Fold along the score line of the Gatefold - Elegant Rose pieces. Apply adhesive to the back of the 1/2 inch edge and attach to the both edges of the tri fold card we created in step 1. The edge should be adhered to the inner part of the card as per the photo above.

Step 3 - Turn the card over so the inside of the card is facing the desk. Use two of the designer paper panels we cut in step 1 to cover the left and right panels as per photo above.

Step 4 - (Optional) Turn the card over again so that the inside of the card is facing towards you. Apply a small piece of Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the edges as per photo above. Place a small Magnet Closure onto the magnet. Place a second magnet on top of the first and then another piece of adhesive.

  • Close the side panels so they touch the centre panel and press down firmly where the magnets are attached so that the second magnets transfer to the centre panel.

  • Adhere the remaining designer paper panels to the side panels so that they cover the magnets and pink edge, as per photo above.

Step 5 - Layer together  the White Soft Finish Cardstock to the dark pink cardstock that we cut in step 1.
  • Stamp the "May all of your dreams come true" sentiment and hearts from the Dreams Sentiments Clear Stamps to White Soft Finish Cardstock using black ink. Die cut sentiment using the Stitched Fishtail Banners die. Die cut another Stitched Fishtail Banner from dark pink cardstock. Layer the two fishtail banners together and adhere to the top right hand corner of the card.
  • Using the Happy Flowers die set, die cut two small and one large skinny flowers from pale pink cardstock and adhere to the bottom section of card as per photo above.
  • Adhere panel to the centre of the gatefold card.

Step 6 -- Using the Stitched Circles die set, die cut a dark pink circle using the second smallest circle.

  • Using the Dotted Scallop Circles die set, die cut a White Soft Finish Cardstock circle using the second smallest circle.
  • Adhere both circles together and adhere the left side of the circle to the left Gatefold - Elegant Roses panel, as per photo above.

Step 7 - Using the Happy Flowers die set, die cut three large skinny flowers from pale pink cardstock.
  • Die cut two small skinny flowers from pale pink cardstock.
  • Die cut 2 small skinny flowers from bright pink cardstock.
  • Die cut 2 thick flowers from bright pink cardstock.
  • Use the stylus from the Susan's Garden All Metal Tool Kit to shape flowers.
  • Glue the three large skinny pale pink flowers on top of each other off setting each one slightly. Adhere the two skinny pale pink flowers on top of the large flowers.
  • Adhere a skinny bright pink flower to a thick bright pink flower.
  • Add pearls to centre of all flowers.
  • Adhere to the circle panels on the front of the card as per photo above.
Step 8 - Using the Leafy Branch 5 die, die cut two branches from green cardstock. Sponge edges of leaves with green ink. Cut the leaves apart to create smaller branches and add to the flowers as per photo above.

Step 9 - Stamp the "Congrats" sentiment from the General Sentiments die set onto White Soft Finish Cardstock using black ink. Die cut sentiment using the smallest Stitched Fishtail Banners die. Adhere to the lower right side of circle just under the flowers as per photo above.

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you enjoyed my tutorial.

Karen Burniston March Designer Challenge Day 1

Hi everyone,

It's time for our March Karen Burniston Designer Challenge. This time round Karen has given us the theme ..... "Pull it!" - anything that pulls. So that includes the Hanging Charm Pull Tab or any of the 3 pull cards.

As the Oval Pull Card is still fairly new only being released earlier in the year I decided to use that for this month's challenge. I wanted to do something different then just an ordinary Pull Card and as I haven't yet created a Gatefold Oval Pull Card with it as yet I decided to create one of those.

If you would like to know how to create this style of card using  the Pull Card dies, you can see a tutorial I created doing something similar using the Rectangle Pull Card on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog here.

For the base of my card I have used the Oval Pull Card.  On either side of my card I added a border using the scallop edge from the Pull Card Edges die set.  On top of the scallop border I added one of the chain dies from the Chains 1 die set.

To decorate my card I used the Lighthouse die set.

I have used designer paper for the base of my card,  as I wanted the same pattern on both sides and the designer paper wasn't too thick. I score my designer paper in half and then used the Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape 152mm which I adhered to one half of my designer paper and then folded the other half on top so I have the same pattern on each side. This also gives the card a little more stability when using just designer paper.

I added a rectangle panel to the centre of my card to which I have added a sentiment ... yes I am definitely getting in early for Father's Day LOL  which isn't until September down here. But as I normally have a fair number of these to make for my daughters, it doesn't hurt to get a head start! And the sentiment so matched the image.

At the top and bottom of the rectangle panel I have added one of the ropes from the Rope 1 die set.

As you can also see whatever image I put on the front of the card, I have also added to the inside so it doesn't matter if the card is opened or closed.

Here is another view of my card so you can see it when it is just starting to be opened.

On the above photo you can see that the right side of my card is opened up, while the left side is still partially closed.

And finally for this photo you can see that the left side of my card is opened up, while the right side is still partially closed.

If you are looking to purchase Karen's Pop It Ups dies in Australia you can find them at Craft Giraffe (formerly Photo Continental).
