Butterfly Ears!

It's time for another Goofy Name Featured Stamper challenge with my goofy CCEE friends on SCS ... each month we pick a name that appeals to us on SCS and create a card around that name and then send them all our cards. This month the name we are featuring is "Butterfly Ears".

It is always interesting to discover why people pick the names they do to use in places like SCS ... my friend asked Butterfly Ears about her name sometime ago and it is because her dog that she uses in her avatar has ears that look like butterflies.

So the brief for our card this month was to create a card with 2 butterflies because most people have two ears, and we had to also include 4 paw prints cause most dogs have 4 legs. I decided to go for a dog theme rather than a butterfly theme as it is much easier to include 2 butterflies in with a dog theme then it is to include 4 paw prints with a butterfly theme.

To create my card I selected a dog that you could see it's 4 paws .. not all dog images you can ... often it is only 2 or 3 you can see. Now as Cindy stated paw prints not paws ... I have covered my bases by using my paw print roller wheel on the background of my card. I will probably get the buzzer (as my friend Cindy calls it) for this lol cause there are way more then 4 paw prints there ... but that is ok ;). Adding the 2 butterflies was easy for this card!

I used my script cuttlebug embossing folder on the red panel on the left side of my card .... I layered this to a brown piece that I used my corner rounder on to create the scallops. And added my brown ribbon to the top of the card.

I used Beate's weekend sketch challenge again for the layout for this card.

Recipe: Stamps: Dog - Rubbernecker; Butterflies & Paw Roller Wheel - SU; Sentiment - Hanna Stamps
Paper: White; Creamy Caramel, Chocolate Chip & Real Red - SU
Other: Black Ink; Creamy Caramel SU Ink; Script Cuttlebug Embossing Folder; Word Window Punch; Corner Rounder; Brown Grosgrain Ribbon; Foam Tape

Life's A Beach ... Tee-rific!

Well today I have a couple of cards to share with you all. These cards are for the Hanna Stamps challenge this week on the Hanna Stamps member forums of SCS which is to create a shaped card. I have been wanting to make a circle card using my nestabilities for sometime now so I decided to do one of these for this particular swap. And the Riley Moose stamps from Hanna Stamps are the perfect size for these cards. I used the larger of my circle nestabilities to create my various layers for my "Life's a Beach" card.

This was a fairly simple card to create .... after cutting my shapes .... I stamped my image onto the white card and colored using my copic markers. I also used my yellow spica pen on the sand area to give it a glitter look. Doesn't Riley look like he is having fun!

Oh btw how did I make this into a card when I used my cuttlebug .... I cut two scallop circles ... on the back circle I measured down from the top approx 2cm ... scored & folded along this mark and then applied tape to the top portion and attached it to the front scallop ... viola!!!!! I now have a card that will open ... I use this method a lot esp if I only have a short supply of card I want to use as the base of my card.

Here is another card I made for this challenge ... actually I made this one first but wasn't 100% sure if I liked it so decided to make the other ... but I came back to it this morning and added the sentiment and now I don't mind it quite so much which is why I am posting it. It probably could still have a few improvements done to it, but you get the idea anyway.

For this one I cut the circles again using my nestabilities and then I ran the white circle through again using my bubbles cuttlebug embossing folder.

Riley was stamped twice and cut out ... the 2nd image I only cut out his head and attached it over the other image using foam tape. The grass is cut using the cricut ... it is leftovers I have had sitting here for about 12 months ... it finally had a use! And finally my sentiment.

Recipes:

Life's A Beach:
Stamps: Hammock Riley - Hanna Stamps; Sentiment - Impression Obsession
Paper: White; Pumpkin Pie - SU; Lakeshore - Bazzill
Other: Black Ink; Circle Nestabilities; Yellow Spica Pen; Copics

Tee-rific Day!
Stamps: Golf Riley - Hanna Stamps; Sentiment - Hambo Stamps

Billy the Pirate!

Arrrrgh all my blogging friends .... today is the day I get to play Beate's weekend sketch challenge. This week Beate is playing tricks on some of us hehe .... probably unintentionally but anyway she did ... I read most of my blogs via google reader ... to me it is the only way I could ever keep up with the amount I like to read. Last night while I was checking my reader for the updated posts I noticed Beate had posted her sketch challenge ... as it was 10 or 11 at night for me I decided it was too late to get working on it right then but I put it aside to work on this morning. When I turned my computer on this morning .... I friend imed me to ask if she was going mad cause the sketch as she knew it was different to the samples she was seeing LOL ... well on investigation we discovered that Beate had put the wrong sketch up last night hehe! Now that would have made a good April fools joke but it ain't April 1 ;) .... anyway I don't really care what the sketch finally is .... just that I am playing cause I do enjoying doing this one every week.

Anyway onto my card ... I wanted to use some new stamps I got in the mail yesterday so while I was deciding do I go cowboy or pirate .... I asked my friend that I was chatting to ... she said pirate so here it is. Don't you just love Billy ... this is a new set from Pink Cat Studio that I had to have .... Billy dresses up as a pirate, cowboy, super hero and a frog ... such a fun set.

I also just recently got some pirate buttons from Dress it Up ...which work perfectly with this image ... see the treasure chest at the bottom right corner. I used my distressed stripes cuttlebug embossing folder to add texture to my black panel ... which I layered first onto white first. I used my star punches for my sentiment.

Recipe:
Stamps: Billy & Boy Background Stamps - Pink Stamps Studio
Paper: White; Black; Real Red - SU
Other: Black Ink; Distressed Stripes Cuttlebug Embossing Folder; Gold Mini Brads; Ticket Corner Punch; Pirate Buttons; Star Punches; Foam Tape

Dad's Cabin

Today's card is made using stamps from the Dad's Outdoor set which will be available from H & M Stamps on Friday 25th April. The sign & the cabin are two separate stamps which gives you a lot more options when using them on your cards .... the sentiment is actually in a long line however for my purposes for this card I needed something compact, so I masked the parts I didn't need when I was stamping it out so I could get it into 3 lines rather than 1.

The design of this card is based on Taylor's of Taylored Expressions sketch for this week. I did adapt it slightly ... only the sketch she used ribbon and a bow for strip across the lower section of the card ... but as I didn't think this would suit the feel of this card I went for using card and brads.

I used my distressed stripes cuttlebug embossing folder to add texture to my true thyme base panel.

Recipe:
Stamps: Dad's Outdoors - H & M Stamps
Paper: White; Black; True Thyme, Really Rust & Not Quite Navy - SU; DP - Unknown
Other: Black Card; True Thyme SU Ink; Black Brads; Circle Punches; Designer Label Punch; Black Grosgrain Ribbon; Distress Stripes Cuttlebug Embossing Folder; Foam Tape

Mom... You're The Best!

This is another card using the new Kindred Spirit range of sets ... the first of which are available as of today from Gina K Designs. This is a brand new concept when it comes to purchasing stamps as you have a choice from lots of different versions of the same stamp depending on which one suits your needs. The women stamps are sold as single stamps, deeply etched rubber on cling vinyl, ready to be trimmed and used with acrylic blocks. The words are in a set that can be used with all of the Kindred spirits and many other stamps they already have. It is sold separately and comes in a tin.

While this image could very well be suitable to give to someone who is a mother .... there is so many other uses for this stamp .... and it is funny that co-incidentally this image is called Rebecca ... as it soooo suits my youngest daughter who works with children this age in her role as a teacher / child care worker.

For my card I used this week's Mojo sketch that can be found on Julee's of Poetic Artistry's blog. The soft sky base of this card was embossed using my fantasy floral cuttlebug embossing folder. I paper pierced the top corners of the main image piece. This particular sketch calls for something to be added to the lower right corner ... on the original sketch Julee uses a star shape to indicate we need to add something and I was going to with something different .... however my star punch which is new was jumping around in my drawer saying pick me pick me!..... and when I thought about it the star so suited the theme of this card .... so as you can see that is what I ended up using.

Recipe:
Stamps: Kindred Spirits Greetings & Kindred Spirits Rebecca - Gina K Designs
Papers: White; Wasabi, Groovy Guava, Soft Sky & Fall Flowers DP - SU
Other: Black Ink; Soft Sky SU Ink; Wasabi Striped Ribbon; Paper Piercing Mat & Tool; Fantasy Flowers Cuttlebug Embossing Folder; Star Punch; Pearls; Foam Tape

Koala-ty Day!

This week's challenge with my fab/sassy friends on SCS was a sketch challenge .... it is based on a card one of our fab/sassy friends had created for a recent challenge of ours. For my card I used my koala & sentiment I received recently from High Hopes Stamps .... I just think this image is sooo adorable and the sentiment is so clever .... I love it when you can get a sentiment that works so well with the image you are using.

I used a gumleaf image to stamp on the base card of this card .... using river rock ink & card ... the two top panels are river rock DP.

Recipe:
Stamps: Sydney Koala & Sentiment - High Hopes Stamps; Gumleaf border - unknown
Paper: White; River Rock, Wasabi, Basic Grey & River Rock DP
Other: Black Ink; River Rock SU Ink; Circle Nestabilities; Wasabi Striped Ribbon; Green Brads; Foam Tape

Kindred Spirits- the journey

"My name is Naomi. I reside in the Boston area with my three daughters. My daughters are all involved in sports with the exception of my 7 year old who takes three dance classes a week! My husband is in sales and flies all around the world quite a bit which leaves me to be both Mum and Dad quite often. I don't mind, but I surely miss him when he's gone. Between sporting events, dance classes, and the perils of a young teenager, I rarely take a moment for myself.
One thing I really enjoy is the hour before school lets out. It's the time of the day where I do a little something for me. What do I do? I usually pour myself a cup of tea and enjoy a piece of home baked English shortbread. It's one of my favorite recipes from back home in England and it makes quite a tasty treat.
Now that we live in the United States, I don't get much of a chance to go back home because of the crazy schedules of my three girls. But next summer, we are planning a trip home and will be sure to bring some shortbread back to my parents so my mother knows I haven't forgotten how to make it!"

Here is the recipe for English shortbread
Ingredients:
1 cup of Butter
3 cups plain Flour
1 Egg
½ cup Sugar
1 tsp Baking powder
Makes about 45 to 50 shortbread squares - store any excess in an old biscuit tin.
Method :
1.
Cream together the butter and sugar, with a wooden spoon, until the mixture is light and fluffy.
2. Beat in the egg.
3. Sift together the flour and baking powder and add to the creamed butter along with the remaining ingredients. Still well with your wooden spoon until all are blended together. Again you should end up with a doughy mixture.
4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface until it makes a square about 14" on each side. Cut this into lots of 2" squares.
5. Put the little squares about 2" apart on to a baking sheet and prick each square a number of times with a fork. (The lines of 'fork holes' on top of the completed biscuit is a 'trademark' of real gingerbread). Bake in a preheated oven 325°F (gas mark 3) (160°C) for about 10 - 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
6. Place onto a rack to cool.

Friends To The End!

Recently when I was looking at some samples for one of Beate's weekend sketch challenge, I discovered a card using the image I am using on my card above .... it was one of those I must have that stamp moments sooo I went to investigate and of course had to put a small order in.

My stamps arrived today shortly before I checked out this week's sketch challenge on SCS .... so it seemed appropriate that I use this stamp on my card today. It was also a great opportunity to use my oval nestabilities .... which I don't use as often as my other nestabilities. The sentiment set by Papertrey Ink are the perfect size to fit into the star and I thought this sentiment worked well with this image.

Recipe:
Stamps: New Friends Ella & Looloo; Mixed Messages Set - Papertrey Ink
Paper: White; Pretty in Pink, Regal Rose & Pretty In Pink DP - SU
Other: Black Ink; Pretty In Pink SU Ink; Oval Nestabilities; Star Punch; Regal Rose 5/8" Ribbon; Foam Tape

Mother's Day Flowers!

Today's card is for this weeks sketch challenge on the MFT Member forum on SCS. I decided to use the newly released Mother's Day set again .... I need to make a few Mother's Day cards, so now is as good a time to make them as later when things could be busier for all I know.

I stamped the main image twice once on white card and once onto certainly celery card .... I cut away the word frame on the white card and layered it onto the certainly celery piece and then layered to a square scallop nestabilites blue layer.

In the sketch the sentiment should be on the square main image ... but as it didn't work there I decided to put mine in the bottom right hand corner. I got some new flowers yesterday and the blue ones I purchased matched perfectly for this card .. the yellow one I had for a while.

Recipe:
Stamps: Mother's Day Set - MFT
Paper: White; Certainly Celery & Brocade Blue - SU; DP - Basic Grey
Other: Black Ink; Yellow Grosgrain Ribbon; Blue & Yellow Flower; Yellow Brad; Word Window Punch; Rectangle Nestabilities; Foam Tape

Cheeky Monkey!

It's Monday again so that means another challenge with my goofy CCEE friends on SCS. This week we were challenged to create a card with 2 buckles on it. When I first heard of this challenge my first thoughts were to use a shoe stamp that had buckles on it and combine it with the verse "1, 2 ... Buckle my shoe" ... however when I looked through my shoe collection of stamps I couldn't find one that clearly showed a buckle ... so I had to go to plan b.

I could have just made a card and added 2 buckles to it .... but I wanted something different .... so I started thinking about what else would have a buckle on it and came up with overalls. So as you can see that is what I made a pair of overalls .... and of course that has 2 buckles on it. I decided to go with blue for boys as I wanted to use this little monkey from High Hopes Stamps that I got recently.

The blue card used here actually has little corrugated type lines on it ... I thought this looked a bit like corduroy.

Recipe:
Stamps: Monkey & Monkey word - High Hopes Stamps; Pocket - SU; Tartan Plaid Backgrounder - CHF
Paper: White; Dark Blue Soft Lines Card
Other: Black Ink; Night of Navy SU Ink; Gold Buckles; Blue Button Brads from Gina K Designs; Blue Eyelets; Foam Tape

River Rock Turtle

Today's card uses stamps from a brand new stamp company called H&M Stamps ... a number of months ago I was asked to join the design team of this company, which I agreed to :). This is a sneak peek at what will be available as of the 10th May when H&M Stamps starts selling it's stamps etc to the public. For more information about H&M Stamps and who else is on the Design Team check out this post on Heather's blog.

This card combines two challenges ... firstly it is for Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge ... which by now you all know I love to do each weekend.

The 2nd challenge is this week's limited supply challenge on SCS ..... it has been a while since I have done the limited supply challenge ... but a friend mentioned it to me the other day and this one sparked my interest so I had to go check it out ... the challenge was to create a card using only white & one other color that is NOT a neutral. The idea here was to pick a color say River Rock as I have used on my card and use only that ... we couldn't use other shades of a color eg River Rock & Old Olive .

As I wanted to use one of the new H&M Stamps on my card I decided to go with a River Rock theme for my card ... it seemed a color that would work with the turtle in "Sealife Friends".

I stamped my turtle in black and used my circle nestabilities to cut out the circle & scallop circles. The designer paper used here is the River Rock Designer Series Paper. I pulled out my dots & spots cuttlebug embossing folder for this card .... I thought it was about time I used one of my older embossing folders that have been neglected since I purchased the newest ones earlier in the year. After I had embossed my river rock card I then used my sponging block to highlight the raised areas using my river rock ink pad. The ribbon was white, I colored this with a marker I use when I use river rock card it is such a perfect match .... for those wondering it is a tria marker which I don't think is available anymore :( ...... I am hoping there is an alternative in copics which I am just in the process of changing over to. To finish the card I added a white flower and brads to my card.

Recipe:
Stamps: Turtle & Sentiment from Sealife Friends - H&M Stamps
Papers: White; River Rock & River Rock DP - SU
Other: Black Ink; River Rock SU Ink; White Grosgrain Ribbon; Circle Nestabilities; White Flower; Brads; Oval Punch; Designer Label Punch; Foam Tape

Hollywood or Bust!

My card for today combines two Hanna challenges .... the first is one of the challenges that we had during the release party .... which was to 'create a card making the opening edge of your card at least 1/2" shorter then the back'. This was easy to do and even easier because I used my score it board so I didn't have to worry about measuring.

This also covers this week's weekly Hanna Challenge which was to use stripes ... we had to use stripes on our card in at least 2 places .... I just love this new DP I purchased last week .... it came in a pack and it all co-ordinates with each other and some of it is striped. I used the striped DP on the inside of the card and I also used the same DP to paper piece Hanna's top. To cover my bases I included a third striped element ... the ribbon!

I used my rectangle nestabilities to do the scalloped layers of both the main image and the sentiment ... both times cutting 2 pieces and joining so I could make it fit the size I needed. I also used my paper piercing mat & tool to paper pierce the bottom left corner.

Recipe:
Stamps: Passport Hanna - Hanna Stamps
Paper: White; River Rock & Wasabi - SU; DP - Heidi Grace
Other: Black Ink; Rectangle Nestabilities; Wasabi Striped Grosgrain Ribbon; Paper Piercing Mat & Tool; Foam Tape

Meet Frances Owl!

Hi everyone ....... some of you might remember a few weeks ago when I posted the news that High Hopes Stamps had named their new owl stamp after me .... they called it "Frances Owl". Of course I was very excited about this .... who wouldn't be having someone name a stamp after them! Well I received my stamps the other night and just had to play with my name sake owl ... isn't she just soooooooooo cute .... I just love it!

This week's tutorial on SCS is a Flap card ... as that was in my email last night I decided I would use my Frances Owl stamp to make one of those, you can find the tutorial here. These are fun and very easy to make.

I used my circle nestabilities to create my circles layers. The sentiment is normally in one line ... so I masked part of it while I stamped just the portions I needed on each line and then used a bookplate to attach it to my flap card.

Here is the inside of my flap card ... I haven't stamped anything inside as yet ... I will probably add a nice verse and maybe some flowers ... but for now I just wanted you guys to be able to see how this card looks when opened.

Recipe:
Stamps: Frances Owl & You're a Hoot - High Hopes Stamps
Papers: White; Chocolate Chip & Cameo Coral - SU; Floral DP - DCWV
Other: Black Ink; Old Paper Distressed Ink; Circle Nestabilities; White Gel Pen; Brown Grosgrain Ribbon; Hodgepodge Hardware; CM Circle Cutter; Hook & Loop Tape; Foam Tape

Love Grows!

I am sure you have all heard the saying " April Showers bring May flowers" this is what inspired the challenge I do with my fab/sassy friends this week .... our challenge was to create a rain themed card .... of course as I have releases this week I tried to combine this challenge with one of the sets I have been featuring and after some thought came up with this card. Why this girl is digging out carrots in the rain I am not sure ... possibly so she can feed her pet rabbit who is hungry ;).

This card features 3 sets from My Favorite Things .... the main stamps used here are from the new set " Can Ya Dig It?" which is due for release later tonight 2nd April. The girl, carrot, rabbit and Love Grows sentiment are all from this new set. The other sets used here are "Behind the Scenes" & "Rain or Shine".

To create this card I stamps the solid polka dot background stamp from Behind the Scenes onto white card using close to cocoa SU ink. I then stamped the girl so that the dress fitted completely onto this background . I then stamped the girl onto my white card to start my scene. Cut out the dress from the polka dot stamped card and adhere it over the girl on the white card.

I masked all of the girl except for the hand which is furthest from us and stamped the first carrot. I then masked the bottom part of the carrot directly on the stamp to stamp the remaining carrots so that only the top of the carrot can be seen so it appears they are growing in the ground. After coloring the image I then stamped the rain all over the card.

I used my swiss dots cuttlebug embossing folder to emboss just the top section of the card ... this allowed me to be able to stamp my sentiment on the lower part of this card.

My Favorite Things is having a New Release Cocktail Party on Wednesday, April 2 from 9-11 p.m. Eastern time. Lots of fun is planned including finding out how YOU can be the next MFT Guest Designer. Head over to the MFT forum on SCS to find out all the details and we hope to see you there on Wednesday night

Hanna's In The Sun!

Today's sketch challenge on SCS was perfect for the new Hanna Stamps to be release this week ... so of course I just had to grab one of the new sets and play ... as you can see I chose "Passport Hanna" for this card .... she is now at some sunny beach resort somewhere!

I combined two challenges with this card ... today's sketch challenge & also this week's Hanna Stamps challenge on the member forums of SCS, which was to "bling it up". It is probably hard to see in this photo ... but I used my clear & yellow spica pens to add sparkle to the waves & the sun.

The saffron panel I added texture to using my distressed stripe cuttlebug embossing folder.

Don't forget to join us in the Hanna Stamps Members Forum over at SCS on Thursday night 9 pm EST for our new release party.

Can Ya Dig It?

This is another card using stamps from the new "Can Ya Dig It?" set which will be released on Wednesday 2nd April by My Favorite Things. For this card I used some of the accessories that are included in the set, aren't these little seed packets so cute! I also took the opportunity to play in Taylor's of Taylored Expressions cupcake challenge .... I have been trying to get to this one all week but with one thing or another haven't managed to get to it until now.

I stamped the seed packets onto my card and then used my circle punches to cut them out and layer. I also used my square punches to do the layered squares.

Hanna Can Fix It!

This time I decided to create a scene using the new Tooltime set from Hanna Stamps which will be released on Friday 4th April. This set is perfect for both male & females ... the tools on their own would work great for a male card.

Creating an inside scene is pretty easy .... first stamp your images ... mask them where needed and then draw two lines for your skirting. Then all you need to do is decorate your floor and wall as desired ... here I just colored the floor with my copic markers. I used the scrunched tissue technique to create the wall in the scene.

After I layered the scene onto my blue card I then added a row of tiny screw brads on each side .

Join us on the Hanna Stamps member forum of SCS for the release party Thursday 3rd April at 9pm .... See some great preview peeks and participate in some fun prize challenges.

Here is another Hanna Stamps sneak peek for you all .... the stamps used in this card are from the new "Passport Hanna" set and will be released this Friday 4th April.

As I stamped the Eiffel Tower onto my card with Hanna ... I decided to go with a red white & blue theme ... but I did include a little black for good measure. I stamped most of the other stamps that are included in the set around the edge of the red card ... some you can't see much off .... the set includes a London Taxi; Eiffel Tower; camera; passport; waves; palm tree; Hollywood sign plus a few more.

Life in Full Bloom!

I have another MFTeaser to share with you today ... the images used here are from the new "Can Ya Dig It" set to be released by My Favorite Things on Wednesday 2nd April.

Today's card uses this week's sketch from Jen's Iheart2stamps blog. I used my circle nestabilities to create the layers for my circle. The bottom panel of my card was created by stamping the stripe background from Behind the Scene's onto river rock card using wasabi ink.

My Favorite Things is having a New Release Cocktail Party on Wednesday, April 2 from 9-11 p.m. Eastern time. Lots of fun is planned including finding out how YOU can be the next MFT Guest Designer.
