July 2022 Karen Burniston Designer Challenge

Hi Crafty Friends,

Welcome to our July Karen Burniston Designer Challenge.

Check out Karen Burniston's blog on Wednesday (US Time) when you will be able to see what all the designers created for the challenge this month, plus Karen will have an amazing video tutorial to share with us all.

Our challenge theme this month is ... "SPINNERS" - create a card of any theme where something spins (this can be Spinner Square, modified Mailbox, or something wound on a string)

Here is a quick video of my card in action.

I have been wanting to make Karen Burniston's Slimline Double Spinner Card that she posted in April for another Designer Challenge, so this challenge was a perfect opportunity to make one. You can see Karen's video here

Normally I know what I want to create when I get started, but for this card I had no idea, so I started with the spinner mechanism and then selected papers and went from there. I decided the colours of the paper shouted birthday so I went from there.

To create my card I used the Spinner Square Pop-up adhering one of the spinner mechanisms to each side of my slimline card. For my patterned paper I used the largest rectangle included in the Long Rectangles - Crosshatch die set.

For all the birthday elements (the cake, presents etc), I used dies from the Big Birthday Charms die set.

For the sentiments on the spinner arms, I used stamps from The Stamping Village Birthday stamp set. I also added a candle to the ends of each of the arms.

I used rectangles from the Short Rectangles - Crosshatch die set to add a panel to write a personal greeting to the lower left hand corner of my card.

For the front of my card, I repeated a the presents square which I adhered to the lower portion of my card. I die cut the "Happy Birthday" sentiment from pink glitter cardstock using the Happy Birthday & Happy Birthday Shadow die sets.

I added texture to the presents on both the front and inside of my card using Altenew's Pinstripe Background stamp and inks to match the colours of the presents. The inks are listed in the supply list below.

I love your layering of the birthday presents! Gives the card such depth! I think I have most of these dies and want to try something similar! Thank you for the inspiration!
