For my card today I decided to create a Christmas Pop-Up Card using Becky Seddon's Gingerbread House die set and the General Pop-Up Die set. I have also used one of the new patterned papers from ModaScrap, these patterned papers are amazing!!!!
Here's how I created my card:
Step 1 -
- Cut the red snowflake patterned paper from the ModaScrap It's Christmas Time 12 x 12 Pattern Paper Pack so that it measures 5 1/2 inches x 11 inches.
- Score along the 11 inch side at 5 1/2 inches and fold to create a 5 1/2 inch square card.
- Open up the patterned paper and position the pop up dies (shown on the right hand side of the photo above) so that the centre nubs of the die are positioned on the centre fold of the card. The wider pop-up die will go in the centre and the thinner one will be used twice to die cut the pop up tabs on either side of the card approximately 5/8 inch from each edge. Die cut and then train the folds so you have your pop up steps along the card.
Step 2 -
- Cut a piece of red cardstock so that it measures 5 1/2 inches x 11 inches.
- Score along the 11 inch side at 5 1/2 inches and fold to create a top folding 5 1/2 inch square card.
- Adhere the pop up inside panel into the folded red card.
Step 3 -
- Using the Gingerbread House die set die cut the following:
- (1) Solid Gingerbread House from Brown Cardstock - (tip: save the door that is removed when you die cut the house)
- (1) Solid Gingerbread Boy from Brown Cardstock
- (1) Solid Gingerbread Girl from Brown Cardstock
- (1) Gingerbread House Icing Overlay from White Soft Finish Cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front.
- (2) sets of Gingerbread House Window Icing Overlay from White Soft Finish Cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front.
- (1) Gingerbread Boy Icing Overlay from White Soft Finish Cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front.
- Gingerbread Girl Icing Overlay from White Soft Finish Cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front.
- (2) sets of Eyes from White Soft Finish Cardstock
- (1) set of Buttons from White Soft Finish Cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front.
- (4) Solid Candy Canes from Red Cardstock
- (4) Decorator Candy Cane Overlays from White Soft Finish Cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive on the back (Note - so that you can have some of the candy canes facing the opposite way, die cut two of the overlays with the adhesive on the back and the other two with the adhesive on the front).
TIP:
- To save on cardstock, adhesive and time, place so masking tape at the back of the Gingerbread House Icing Overlay die prior to die cutting. Next attach the windows onto the masking tape as shown on the photo above. Be careful not to let any parts of the dies touch one of the other dies.
- Now use this to die cut your icing and window pieces from white cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front.
Step 4:
- Remove the protective backing from the adhesive that is on the front of the icing overlay piece and cover with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter. Remove excess glitter and return to jar. Polish glitter into the adhesive with a finger.
- Adhere icing overlays to all the gingerbread pieces.
- Place the door we saved in step 3 back into the opening of the house, turn to the back and tape in place.
Step 5 -
- Adhere Gingerbread House, Boy and Girl to pop-up tabs on the inside of card (refer to photo above for placement).
Step 6 -
- Using the pine bough die from the Beautiful Baubles die set, die cut two pine pieces from White Soft Finish Cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive.
- Remove protective backing from the adhesive and cover adhesive with Forest Green Silk Microfine Glitter.
- Remove excess glitter and return to jar. Polish glitter into the adhesive with a finger.
- Join the two pine bough in the centre using adhesive and adhere to the top of card. Trim off any pieces overhanging from sides of card.
- Using the largest fishtail banner die in the Stitched Fishtail Banners die set, die cut a banner from Olive Twist Soft Finish Cardstock.
- Stamp the sentiment to the centre of the banner using VersaMark Ink and White Embossing Powder. Adhere to the centre of the base of the card so that the stitched lines on the left side and the fishtail part on the right are overhanging the card. Trim off excess card.
Step 8 -
- Assemble Candy Canes that you die cut in step 3 so that you have two facing left and two facing right.
- Adhere to of the candy canes to the side of the house so they can be seen behind the gingerbread boy and girl.
- Adhere the remaining candy canes on either side of sentiment.
Step 9 - The Front of Card:
- Cut a piece of the same patterned paper used for the inside of the card so it measures 5 1/2 inches x 4 inches.
- Cut two thin strips of Olive Twist Soft Finish Cardstock and adhere to the back of the wide edges so that a small amount of the cardstock shows.
- Adhere panel to the centre of the front of card.
Step 10 -
- Die cut the A Way with Words - Merry Christmas from White Soft Finish Cardstock that has Clear Double Sided Adhesive on the front. Cover adhesive with Forest Green Silk Microfine Glitter.
- Layer sentiment to a piece of Cream cardstock that has been die cut using an oval from the Stitched Ovals die set
- Layer the cream oval to a red oval die cut using the Dotted Scallop Ovals.
- Adhere to centre of front of card using foam tape.
I hope you enjoyed my project today. Don't forget to check out the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog to see all the wonderful creations by our talented designers and for a change to win the giveaway.
